Narrative
Clearly state what production technique(s) you think have
been used to create specific soundtrack elements
The setting for this scene is an isolated edge in the countryside of Los Santos. It is a
quiet area surrounded by grass, sand and ocean water. The first piece of music
heard is near the start and it is a slow paced played on drums. Also in the setting are
the 3 main characters - Michael, Franklin and Trevor – and the main evil character in
a car. The starting music fits in with the scene as it builds up tension. Michael is
waiting for the others and together they will end the problems this man has caused.
After this has been done and they start to drive away, another piece of music is used
which is more powerful and fits in with the beautiful scenery in the area.
The main moods here are tension and happiness. One is seen in each music piece.
The first piece of music mainly displays tension as Michael is waiting for the others
to arrive and anything could happen. Also, the player will think that something
serious is going to happen and will therefor feel this tension. On the final piece of
music, happiness is displayed. This is because the music is upbeat and at a faster
pace.
The games genres are action-adventure, crime, open world and role playing. The
first piece of music heard fits with the action adventure and crime genres. This is
because it builds up a bit of tension. In action and crime, there is a chance that
someone could die or get hurt, so builds this tension. The final piece of music heard
fits with the open world and role playing genre as it is more upbeat and strong. With
the scene, it makes the player feel like there is a big world around them that they
can explore.
Before this scene, one of the main characters, Franklin, is given the option to kill one
of the other characters, Michael or Trevor. However, there is a third option which is
to get together and try to survive what is thrown against them. Franklin picked this
option and the three characters captured the main bad guy that tried to kill them
and force one to kill another, so they defeat him by pushing a car he is in off a cliff.
The final piece of music fits in well here as the player has finished this great, massive
I believe both songs were recorded in a recording
studio. The final piece of music is an actual song
and the first piece I believe was recorded by
Rockstar(the creators of the game).
The creators wanted these feelings to be
apparent and have done well portraying tension
in the first piece. Also, happiness is felt in the last
piece.
The chimes and drums fit in with the genres here
as they both inspire tension and fulfilment in the
first piece. These fit with the crime genre as the
main characters can be called criminals for
murdering the man.
I believe that the creators tried to find something
nice and relaxing for the players to listen to for
the end piece as they have just finished the game.
The first piece of music was made as it fits with
the scene where the player does not know what
will happen to the bad guy.

game, so the music is strong and relaxing.
