User Experience
A good interactive allows the user to move fluidly through the targeted action points and content
areas. To accomplish this, the user interface must be straightforward, consistent, and easy for any
user to navigate. We will map out a navigation scheme illustrating how users explore content and
move through the experience. Through tap-testing and review, we will refine the process in the
early stages of the project.
Once the structural problems have been solved, we make things beautiful. Our designers are
second to none. We will create a look and feel for the media elements that is aligned with the
exhibition style and conveys the appropriate tone. Every interface element and piece of content will
be carefully considered, resulting in a pleasing visual experience.

Comprehensive Experiences
The way one interacts with libraries, museums and performing arts spaces is changing. With the
majority of visits beginning on-line, the experience no longer starts at the front door but rather the
minute the website is loaded. Bluecadet views these changes as an opportunity to improve the
physical experience with a complimentary digital experience.
Projects like “La Invencion Concreta” at the Reina Sofia Museum use mobile to create a better
understanding of the exhibition. Rather than merely displaying the same image on the screen as you
see on the wall, the app provides complimentary information, fun facts and opportunities to interact
with the pieces in multiple languages.

Dashboards
Bluecadet has the capacity to create interactive dashboards and infographics that are both
informative and interesting. These displays can stream real-time data while adding a beautiful
aesthetic touch.
Our displays have been placed in museums and libraries and are poised to be equally as successful
in corporate headquarters or university buildings. They provide an easy way of conveying how a
building is performing environmentally and are even eligible for LEED credits in educating the
building’s users.

Our websites, apps and large-format interactives are the perfect way to tell the story of a company
or organization. From libraries and museums to alumni centers and stadiums, these displays are a
beautiful feature that also creates interest in the history or future of an organization.
We conduct preliminary testing with with full size mock-ups, and we never assume something that
works on a small monitor will work on a huge multi-touch screen. All of this helps us break out of the
typical single-user kiosk mold and develop experiences that are truly multi-user.

An interactive donor wall provides a simple way for visitors to see where the museum’s donors are located

25. MULTI-TOUCH TOUCHSCREEN: University of Pennsylvania Museum
e Hunal Burial interactive was created for the Maya 2012 exhibition and was designed for up to four simultaneous users.

26. MULTI-USER PUZZLE: Sue the T-Rex at the Field Museum - Chicago
e multi-user interface we created for the Field Museum’s T-Rex goes beyond traditional 2D navigation and makes full use of multi-touch gestures. Visitors can tap,
swipe and pinch through detailed 3D dinosaur scans while simultaneously rotating the full 3D skeleton.

27. USER GENERATED CONTENT: Assignment Afghanistan
is project encouraged visitors to share their own personal story and then placed it by location on a larger map. As the stories were added the site became a very
personal diary of powerful memories.

28. ANIMATICS: Remembering Tim Hetherington

We believe that technology is at its best when it helps us understand what we can’t easily see or
teaches us something new. Creating environments that inspire using augmented information
enriches the physical space by adding another level of interaction.
Encouraging visitors to engage with content collaboratively can foster conversation and create a
lasting impression. We understand the design challenges of multi-user interactives like multiple
viewing angles, collaboration vs. competition, and clutter and are passionate about finding ways of
weaving the experience into the existing context.

31. INTERACTIVE INFOGRAPHICS: Financial Times at Grand Central Terminal - New York
For the Financial Times “Graphic World” installation we created a huge floor mat with an array of pressure sensors. Each sensor corresponded to a portion of a projected

34. Immersive Environments
Wayfinding Systems
We’ve seen complex maps and gigantic signs that attempt to assist in negotiating physical spaces
but we think less is truly more when it comes to assisting people in getting where they want to go.
Mobile apps and multi-touch screens are an easy way to explain a complex spatial arrangement in a
bold way. We’ve created 2D and 3D solutions ranging from the scale of a single building all the way
to fly-bys at the scale of an entire city. While they differ in size, they all help visitors understand a
space with an interface as simple as a smartphone.

is model of Philadelphia is featured in an interactive map on the WithArt website we created for the Greater Philadelphia Tourism and Marketing Corporation.

36. MURAL ARTS WAYFINDING: Albert M. Greenfield African American Iconic Images Collection
A comprehensive mobile app provides a guided way of experiencing the collection of beautiful murals scattered around Philadelphia. e app is narrated by ?uestlove
of the Roots and has detailed information that supplements the actual works.

37. Immersive Environments
Projection Mapping
Bluecadet has the experience to develop advanced projection mappings using commercially
available equipment. This technology can be used on walls, floors, partitions or ceilings to create
dynamic spaces the can teach or inspire. From purely graphic imagery to motion-driven games,
these mappings can truly transform a space.
If the projection system needs to be fine-tuned on a regular basis, due to vibrations in the exhibit
hall or getting bumped by visitors, Bluecadet can develop a simple software-based system for
recalibration.

38. INTERACTIVE ENVIRONMENTS: Proposal for New York Public Library
e above example shows how Bluecadet’s interactives can be incorporated into existed or proposed buildings. Projections can correspond to digital screens or tables
and create a secondary layer on physical surfaces.

39. SPATIAL MAPPING: University of Pennsylvania Museum
Visitors entering the Penn Museum’s “Maya 2012” exhibit are greeted by our “Night Sky” animation projected on a 30 curved wall. e projection required synching
two channels of video and projection mapping onto the curved wall and around another structure in the gallery.

40. Gestural Interfaces
Interactive Displays
Interfaces allowing users to control applications using body motion are becoming more powerful
and commonplace; the technology offers exciting possibilities. Bluecadet has explored a number of
frameworks in this space, including computer vision, processing, OpenFrameworks, and Cinder. Our
team approaches gestural application development strategically, ensuring the appropriate
technology is used to reach the desired user experience. Rapid prototyping and an iterative design
and development process is key to success when working with these new technologies.
Bluecadet’s programmers are well versed in the capabilities of the hardware and software systems,
and offer the expertise to execute a fun, robust, and stable final product.
