2. DESCRIPTION
• Kali Linux- formerly known as BackTrack Linux) is an open-
source, Debian-based Linux distribution aimed at advanced
Penetration Testing and Security Auditing. It does this by
providing common tools, configurations, and automations
which allows the user to focus on the task that needs to be
completed, not the surrounding activity.
• Kali Linux contains industry specific modifications as well as
several hundred tools targeted towards various Information
Security tasks, such as Penetration Testing, Security Research,
Computer Forensics, Reverse Engineering, Vulnerability
Management and Red Team Testing.
4. FUNCTIONS OF THE OS
• Kali Linux is mainly used to initiate advanced-level
Security Auditing and Penetration Testing. The OS
comprises numerous tools responsible for carrying
out tasks like information security, security
research, penetration testing, reverse engineering,
and computer forensics
5. SECURITY AND MAINTENANCE OF THE OS
• Kali Linux is an open-source, Debian-based Linux
distribution geared towards various information
security tasks, such as Penetration Testing,
Security Research, Computer Forensics and
Reverse Engineering.
• Kali Linux is a Debian-derived Linux distribution
designed for digital forensics and penetration
testing. It is maintained and funded by Offensive
Security.
6. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
OF KALI LINUX
The advantages of Linux include being open-source,
stability and reliability, security, customizability, and
cost-effectiveness.
The disadvantages of Linux include limited software
availability, limited hardware support, a steep learning
curve, lack of commercial support, and compatibility
issues.
7. WHY SHOULD WE USE KALI LINUX
• Hackers choose Linux because of its general lack of
patch management for the OS system, outdated
third-party
• applications and lack of password enforcement.
Most organizations today have extensive patching
• methodologies for Windows, but most do not have
such a system in place for Linux
8. DO YOU THINK THIS OPERATING SYSTEM IS
GOOD FOR OUR DAILY USE? WHY?
• An operating system is the most important
software which runs on a computer. It controls the
computer's memory, processes and all software
and hardware. Several computer programs
normally run at the same time, all of which need to
access the computer's processor (CPU), memory,
and storage.
