23º83´ to 25º68´ N latitude
3. Altitude : 740 m. to 2994 m. above MSL
4. Climate : Mild tropical to temperate
5. Rainy season : May to October
6. Rainfall : 1500 mm (Annual average)
7. Temperature : 0.5 to 35ºC

AGRO CLIMATE OF MANIPUR
4. RICE IN MANIPUR
• Only staple food crop
• Area : 1.7 lakh ha
• Variety: Mostly glutinous
• Productivity: 2 t/ha (State), 4t/ha (Valley)
• Yield increament : 46.35% (1980s), Static
(After)
• So, high time to find an alternative technology
like SRI
5. SYSTEM OF RICE INTENSIFICATION
• Based on 3 main principles
• Transplanting of young seedlings singly
• Wider spacing
• Wise management of lesser nutrients & water
6. OBJECTIVE OF THE RESEARCH
• SRI came into existence since 2006 in Manipur
• But, whatever technology used is borrowed
• No systemic work is done so far till yet in the
state
• So, the present investigation is carried out with
the objectives of
• 1. To find out suitable spacing for the popular
varieties of Manipur &
• 2. To find out suitable N dose under SRI
7. METHODOLOGY
• Experimental site: CAU research farm
• Soil: clayey
• Nutrient status : Medium
• Soil reaction: Acidic (5.4 pH)
• To achieve the objectives 2 sets of
experiments are conducted as given below:

12. CONCLUSION
• From the study it can be concluded that for
medium duration HYV, rice varieties like CAU-R1,
under SRI method a spacing of 25x25 cm was
performing better with higher grain yield
however, for profuse tillering hybrid varieties like
PAC-801 the spacing of 30cm x 35 cm can be
adopted. For nitrogen dose, 40 kg/ha can be
given as it produced statically similar yield upto
80 kg N/ha. At wider spacing higher N dose can
be given. But, the trials need to repeat for
another year for reaffirmation.
