2. Container has become the modern means of transporting goods from one place to another. Every
organization is moving from conventional transportation mode to modern transportation mode to opt an
ease, customization and cost saving. Containers build for movement of goods are as per the ISO standards.
Thus, a container playing a major role in transportation optimum usage is necessary for minimization of
total loss. In this project container, optimum filling of container space is done by dividing the space into
four compartments and assigning percentage of loss if the particular compartment is not filled with
product. Therefore, minimization of total loss leads to cost optimization (profit maximization) of
transporting of container from on location to another. Excel solver is being used for formulating and
solving the problem.
Problem: A fuel truck with 4 compartments needs to supply 3 different types of gas to a customer. When
demand is not filled, the company loses $0.25 per gallon that is not delivered. How should the truck be
loaded to minimize loss by optimum utilization of space?
