                    Leadership support

    IDB Group President Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali launched the
    Innovation Program by calling a Town-Hall meeting with all staff

    The Advisors of the President closely monitor the program

    The program is placed under the Office of the President

    All Department Heads are aware and encouraged to support
    innovation and creativity at the workplace

                     Leadership support
     The ground work for the innovation program was started in April 2010
     with the appointment of the Innovation Facilitator.

      On June 6, 2010, The President launched the program inviting all staff
     in a town hall gathering. All the Senior Management were present in
     that meeting.

     The Town-hall was a big blast as it introduced few new items for IDB:
       - A week-long electronic promotions of the event
       - Colorful Banners along with bulb cuts
       - Video interviews of the staff on innovation
       - Presentation of IDB’s own innovation case studies
       - A multimedia show
       - The plans for Innovation@IDBG

     Three major stages in innovation management- Conception, Implementation,
     Marketing

     IDB’s current focus is in Conception and Implementation; still   drafting
     guidelines on Marketing

     Clearly defined Idea Management workflow; Including the President
     in the workflow gives staff a sense of trust and assurance

     Implementation at this stage belongs to the Departments but team-based
     project implementation will be introduced soon.

   Incentive Program
      Encouragement by Senior Management for
     contributing any ideas

     Provide Incentives- at 3 stages
     1. At the inception of ideas
       (after submitting ideas in the Idea Mgt
        System )

     2. When the idea is chosen for pilot test

      The Innovation Set-up Team consists of Volunteers from various
      departments, mostly young professionals

      represents HR, Administration, Finance, Operations and REFORM unit

      Innovation Ambassadors- Terms and References has been drafted;
      ambassadors will be chosen soon.

  alleviate poverty, achieve social justice and protect the environment

  IDB might establish special agencies for innovation to encourage
  partnership between Governments and the private sectors to –
      o invest in inventions and technology
      o tie scientific research to development and investment
      o build bridges between professionals and scientists
      o increase the capabilities of scientific and research institutions and
      o offer stimulants for investment in technology and inventions through the
        purchase of pre-paid services and tax relief.

                 Inspiring Innovation in IDB Member Countries
     IDB might assist member countries in developing innovation framework,
     policies, guidelines.

     IDB to support development of regulatory framework, define
     performance standards, IP policies guidelines and consult Governments on
     related policy matters.

     IDB to finance R&D work and also helps in developing R&D infrastructure,
     Science park in the member countries.

     IDB to provide training programs, learning modules in the schools and/or
     set up smart schools in member countries.

     IDB to finance prototype development and market new products

   Challenges in Gardening Innovation
     Scope of work doesn’t allow IDB to influence Governments in            the MCs

     Resource constraints-             lack of workforce to initiate such a big agenda,
     financial limitations are there

     Need to establish networking capacity with international and local
     agencies in the MCs

     Need to develop a database of innovation capabilities of the MCs

     Identify the countries that have an innovation framework- policies,
     infrastructure, resources- learn and replicate to similar countries

     Set up an idea incubator- invite people to send their breakthrough
     ideas- evaluate and finance to develop prototype and find partners
     to commercialize

     Organize conferences, seminars in the MCs to create awareness on
     innovation

  • 21. Innovation in the IDBG Leadership support The ground work for the innovation program was started in April 2010 with the appointment of the Innovation Facilitator. On June 6, 2010, The President launched the program inviting all staff in a town hall gathering. All the Senior Management were present in that meeting. The Town-hall was a big blast as it introduced few new items for IDB: - A week-long electronic promotions of the event - Colorful Banners along with bulb cuts - Video interviews of the staff on innovation - Presentation of IDB’s own innovation case studies - A multimedia show - The plans for Innovation@IDBG
