8. Redesigning agriculture sector across country
● More than 16,000 scientific manpower would be required to cater to the needs of
agricultural R&D in India. At present, there is a 50% gap in the demand and supply of
manpower in agriculture.
● By 2020, the annual out turn required for undergraduate would be about 54,000, which is
currently limited to 40,000, higher agricultural education to attract.
● The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)- Agricultural University (AU) which offers
various undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes through 74 universities across the
country is planning to have the agri-education in sync with National Education Policy (NEP),
2020.
