  2. 2. ABOUT INTERNET The Internet is the global system of interconnected computer networks that use the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link billions of devices worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad arrayof electronic, wireless, and opticalnetworking technologies. The term Internet, when used to refer to the specific global system of interconnected Internet Protocol (IP) networks, is a proper noun[9] and may be written with an initial capital letter. In common use and the media, it is often not capitalized, viz. the internet.
  3. 3. TERMIOLOGIES RELATED TO INTERNET BLOGS - A blog is a web site made up of entries, which are called "posts." Blogs can focus on a wide range of topics from politics to food art, and sometimes consist of only the author's thoughts and experiences (much like an online journal). Blogs are typically run and written by one person, but organizations or groups of people may collaborate on a blog with each member providing a new viewpoint or information.
  4. 4. HTTP-The Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is an application protocol for distributed, collaborative, hypermedia information systems. HTTP is the foundation of data communication for the World Wide Web. Hypertext is structured text that uses logical links (hyperlinks) between nodes containing text. FTP-The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used to transfer computer files between a client and server on a computer network. FTP is built on a client- server model architecture and uses separate control and data connections between the client and the server.
  5. 5. URL - A URL is one type of Uniform Resource Identifier (URI); the generic term for all types of names and addresses that refer to objects on the World Wide Web. The term "Web address" is a synonym for a URL that uses the HTTP or HTTPS protocol
  6. 6. Broadband - A high-speed connection to the Internet is known as broadband. There are several types of broadband connections, such as cable, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), and fiber-optic. Fiber-optic connection is both the newest and fastest method of Internet connectivity thus far.
  7. 7. Browser - A browser, also called a web browser, is a software program that allows the user to access and browse the World Wide Web. There are many different browsers available, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome. Each browser has a different visual design and unique features.
  8. 8. Cloud Computing - Cloud computing is when data is processed and stored on the Internet, usually hosted by a business or company, instead of on a personal computer or server. The "cloud" portion of the term is just another name for the Internet. This can be a useful way to store data if there isn't much room on a personal hard-drive, but the data can only be accessed through an Internet connection.
  9. 9. Download - The process of downloading refers to receiving data on a personal computer or computer system when the data itself is stored on another computer or on the Internet itself. A download may be anything from a PowerPoint presentation to a music file. Email - Email refers to messages sent electronically between two or more users. It can be written as either "email" or "e-mail", and the word may be used as both a noun and a verb. An email service like Yahoo! or MSN will provide users with a personal email address, which can be used to direct an email to a specific recipient.
  10. 10. Encryption and Authentication - Authentication and encryption help make sure that any data transmitted over the Internet is done so securely. Authentication makes sure that both users are legitimate, and that they are not impersonating another user or web site. Encryption helps make sure that the data transmitted is only transmitted between the two users in question, and is protected from being read by a third party.
  11. 11. Firewall - A firewall is a piece of software that helps prevent a computer from being attacked by online viruses or hackers. Most computers come with a firewall installed, but there are plenty of programs available online for download.

The Internet carries an extensive range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic mail, telephony, and peer-to-peer networks for file sharing.

Most traditional communications media, including telephony, radio, television, paper mail and newspapers are being reshaped or redefined by the Internet, giving birth to new services such as email, Internet telephony, Internet television music and video streaming websites. Newspaper, book, and other print publishing are adapting to website technology, or are reshaped into blogging, web feeds and online news aggregators (e.g., Google News). The entertainment industry was initially the fastest growing segment on the Internet.
  14. 14. USAGE OF INTERNET 1. Checking emails It is reported that the first thing that 90 % of Internet users do when they connected to the net is to check if they have received any emails. Internet has drastically changed the mail pattern and has made it incredibly fast.
  15. 15. 2. Download It is hard to find an Internet user, who has not used it to download music and movies. Apart from it, there are lots of other things that can be downloaded using internet as well. 3. Search For Relevant Information If you are not sure about something, then one of the easiest way to know more about it is by searching it on internet. Internet has got a huge database of information on almost every subject and one can easily find out lots of information on any topic using internet.
  16. 16. 4. Book Tickets Online booking has made things really easy. Be it a movie ticket or flight ticket, you can book just about anything using Internet. The process is very easy, convenient and super fast. 5. Shop Online The use of internet is not limited merely to booking tickets. With help of net, you can do a full-fledged online shopping. On popular e-stores like Ebay, Amazon etc., one can find almost anything that he needs to buy. These e-stores are reliable and you can find quality products at most competitive rates on them; and all this can be done without even stepping out of your home!
  17. 17. 6. Make Friends –One of the best things about internet is that is has made communication very easy and convenient. World is a small place now and one can get connected to just about any part of the world without any problem. There are many sites and forums on net, where you can find likeminded people and make friends with them. All this is possible only due to internet.
  18. 18. 7. Socialize Social networks have got really big since last decade. Facebook and Twitter are the new online hangouts of net-izens and who likes to share all the latest happening of their life on these social networks and keep their profile duly updated. Now it is possible to be in touch with all of your friends and relatives, however big they may count in numbers and all this is possible due to social networks, which acts as a very convenient and effective platform for online socialization.
  19. 19. 8. E Banking Banking was never so easy and convenient before! Right from opening an account to operating it, E-Banking has really been a big boon for everyone. Not only can one view his account activities but he can also execute online transactions from the comfort of the home. 9. Data Sharing Data sharing was never so easy and quick before! It doesn’t matter, if you have to send a file or song, a picture or a ebook,; with help of internet, you can send just about anything at anywhere and that too, in no time!
  20. 20. TYPES OF WEB BROWERSChrome is a web browser owner developed by Google based on the open source project Chromium running under Windows , Mac , Linux , Android and iOS . Google Chrome is the same Chromium except a different logo and some features less or development . Mozilla Firefox (or simply Firefox) is a free and open-source web browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation and its subsidiary, the Mozilla Corporation. Firefox is available for Windows, OS X and Linux operating systems, with its mobile versions available for Android, and Firefox OS
  21. 21. Internet Explorer is a discontinued series of graphical web browsers developed by Microsoft and included as part of the Microsoft Windows line of operating systems, starting in 1995. Opera is a web browser developed by Opera Software. The latest version is available for Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux operating systems, and uses the Blink layout engine Safari is a web browser developed by Apple based on the WebKit engine. First released in 2003 with Mac OS X Panther, a mobile version has been included in iOS devices since the introduction of the iPhone in 2007.
  22. 22. SEARCH ENGINES A web search engine is a software system that is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. The search results are generally presented in a line of results often referred to as search engine results pages (SERPs). The information may be a mix of web pages, images, and other types of files. Some search engines also mine data available in databases or open directories. Unlike web directories, which are maintained only by human editors, search engines also maintain real-time information by running an algorithm on a web crawler.
  23. 23. TYPES OF SEARCH ENGINES Yahoo Inc. is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. Yahoo was founded by Jerry Yang and David Filo in January 1994 and was incorporated on March 2, 1995. Google is an American techmultinational comnology pany specializing in Internet- related services and products that include online advertising technologies, search, cloud computing, and software.

Ask.com (originally known as Ask Jeeves) is a question answering-focused e-business and web search engine founded in 1996 by Garrett Gruener and David Warthen in Berkeley, California Ask.com has been criticized for its browser toolbar, which has been accused of behaving like malware due to its bundling with other software and the difficulty of its uninstallation. Bing is a web search engine owned and operated by Microsoft. The service has its origins in Microsoft's previous search engines: MSN Search, Windows Live Search and later Live Search. Bing provides a variety of search services, including web, video, image and map search products. It uses the ASP.NET programming language and follows the design principles of Microsoft's "Metro" design language.
