Radiologists are medical doctors who use imaging techniques when diagnosing and treating
illnesses and injuries. There are several techniques radiologists use such as MRI and CT
scans, x-rays, nuclear medicine, fusion imaging, and ultrasound, to name a few. Radiologists
have studied how to use these machines, which if misused, may be very dangerous for
patients.

In hospitals, radiologists have very significant roles. They make sure patients are safe and
protected from radiation. Radiologists interpret images and look for signs of disease and
injury. They are expert consultants who work hand-in-hand with physicians regarding a
patient’s case.
Radiologists also treat diseases through radiation (oncology), and they also use
interventional radiology, which is a minimally invasive therapy using images as
guides. They also correlate what they find in images resulting from MRI, CT, x-rays, and
other machines with other medical tests and confirm or refute the diagnosis.
Radiologists recommend more exams and treatments if needed, after consulting with other
medical specialists.
As such, radiologists have gone through an extra two years to learn the workings of new
machines and attend more seminars and training when newer technology for imaging is
