An iconic sportswriter postulated a theory decades ago that he added
on to in the early 2000s.
There are two main tenets to this “theory” - One is that
team inexplicably plays better when their star player is injured or on the
bench.
The other suggests that the team reaches new heights immediately
following the departure of a star player.
What is the theory called, and what team was it associated with when
first created?

“X” was a term coined in the early 20th century by Russian
filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein. It expressed his reaction against
his rival Dziga Vertov's group, who believed the purpose of the
camera eye is to record reality as-is, in order to present the
world in its "truest" form.
• Eisenstein instead thought composition and editing were the
most crucial parts of film, and coined his rival term instead.

This is a song (X) by John Coltrane from his album Impressions which experiments the jazz modality
with Indian music and blues.
While touring in late 1965, the lead of the rock band Z had only a single cassette recording to listen
to on the tour bus, with Ravi Shankar on one side and X and Africa/Brass on the other. Y (the band
leader) has said that "We played that damn thing 50 or 100 times, through a Fender amplifier that
was plugged into an alternator in the car.“
The result of this was a recording of the single “A", acknowledged by the band as a direct homage to
the legendary artist and his album Impressions (in particular X). The song A is considered seminal
since it was responsible for creating a musical subgenre “B” when journalist Sally Kempton, in her
review of A for The Village Voice, used B to describe the record's experimental fusion of eastern and
western music.

Construction was begun on a building next to a castle, but before it was
completed, the man overseeing the project died and Wren took up the project. His
idea was to create a large open area for the building. But the people in charge
were worried that the open area needed more support, and they insisted that four
more stone columns be added to the design. Wren said the columns were
unnecessary. Eventually, however, he relented, and built the columns.
But to prove he was right, the columns were constructed so they did not touch the
ceiling, and were merely decoration.

of the band dressed in a certain item of clothing that might remind one of Jareth

dragon imagery and so forth” (Sorry Danaerys!)
