Anton van Dellen is a Rhodes Scholar who studied neurophysiology and
Huntington’s disease at the University of Oxford. Prior to being selected as a
Rhodes Scholar, Anton van Dellen studied medicine at the University of
Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.

Huntington’s disease is a rare neurological disorder that causes the body to produce
harmful toxins that affect brain function.The disorder recently received public
attention when a student at Stanford University premiered an autobiographical
documentary, “Twitch,” chronicling her experiences living with the disease.The 43-
minute film, which screened on campus atAnnenburg Auditorium, was created by
filmmaker Kristen Powers. Ms. Powers inherited the disease from her mother. Among
several topics, the film covered Ms. Powers' mother’s struggles to carry out simple
chores and to cope with the disease's rapid mood swings and bouts of shouting; it
also looked at the painful years Ms. Powers had to endure before she could be tested
for the presence of the disease in her own body. Following the screening, a panel of
Huntington’s experts fielded questions from the audience.
