A fellow student and I started a weekly programme linked with Swindon Academy.
The idea was to highlight the importance of participation and the positive impact sport
can have on an individual both physically and mentally.
These weekly slots consisted of a mixture of sports and were attended by both sexes.
By the end of the year there was amazing progress, considering the lack of
commitment to sport initially. This programme is still currently running.
Sloane Club:
Worked in each section of the club: waitressing, accounting, reception, kitchen and
house keeping.
It was a valuable experience and enhanced my hospitality skills alongside giving me a
strong insight into the running of a large business.
Coulson Harney Advocates:
I spent time in a corporate law firm in Nairobi, where I was placed on the research
team.
The main case I worked on was a merger between international oil companies and
their investment into Africa.
Research was carried out on the background of each of the companies, looking at
their financial success. Alongside, which African countries they should invest into.
I sat in on confidential meetings between the clients and the firm, which was good
insight into the importance of confidentiality.
Riding with the Disabled:
Each Monday for a year I spent the afternoon as a volunteer for Riding with the
Disabled.
I spent each Monday with an amazing boy who suffered from autism and a special
friendship was formed.
Common Entrance Tutor:
Tutor History, English and Science at Common Entrance level.
Each Easter holiday I worked with different students on their Common Entrance.

Sanata Charitable Trust:
This inspirational charity was started with the intention of changing the lives of street
children who had been abandoned or made homeless through the political violence in
2008 in Kenya.
It initially housed very few children in basic but functioning accommodation, the
organisation has now expanded to house over a hundred girls and boys.
Alongside providing these children with a shelter there are councillors on site and
volunteers who aim to ultimately rehabilitate the children and give them life skills to
carry with them into the real world.
Each holiday I spend time here working with children who have suffered from
unthinkable tumours. Time is spent with them in both an academic and relaxed
environment.
