             1 ...............................

Everyone has heard of Madonna. She is one of the best-known celebrities

in the world. She is Madonna the singer, Madonna the actress, Madonna

the writer, and now… Madonna the mother! Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes,

has begun to appear on TV and in magazines alongside her mother.

             2 ...............................

But the thirteen-year-old is being shielded from the public eye by her

protective mother. Madonna won’t let her daughter be put under pressure

by the media, and she controls her budding career as a celebrity.

There is a rumour that she stopped Lourdes taking part in a Harry

                 Potter film.

             3 ...............................

But she doesn’t stop her from doing everything. Lourdes and her mother have

launched a line of clothes called “Material Girl” and there is talk of a film project

about Edward VIII involving Lourdes and her mother.

             4 ...............................

Madonna has spoken of her fears of her daughter being put under pressure

from too much celebrity focus. At the launching of the clothes line it was

Madonna who was presenting the clothes. Talking about Lourdes, she

said “eventually I will let her talk to the press. But at the moment she needs

                 to concentrate on her studies.”

           LISTENING

                         Lyrics

Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me
           I think they’re o.k.
If they don’t give me proper credit
           I just walk away

They can beg and they can plead
But they can’t see the light, that’s right
’cause the boy with the cold hard cash
Is always Mister Right, ’cause we are

           Chorus:
           Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Some boys romance, some boys slow dance
           That’s all right with me
If they can’t raise my interest then I
           Have to let them be

Some boys try and some boys lie but
I don’t let them play, no way
Only boys who save their pennies
Make my rainy day, ’cause we are

           (chorus)

Living in a material world [material]
           Living in a material world
           (repeat)

Boys may come and boys may go
And that’s all right you see
          Experience has made me rich
And now they’re after me, ’cause everybody’s
          (chorus)

          A material, a material, a material, a material world,
