INTRODUCTION
A Learning Management System – also known as an e-learning platform -
is a cloud-based software package that enables enterprises to deliver
learning content and resources to their employees. An e-learning platform
is often web-and cloud-based to facilitate 24/7 access to e-learning courses
and relevant education. Furthermore, an e-Learning Platform is also called
"Course Management System", "Pedagogical Platform" or "e-Learning
Management System".
Some of the best online learning platforms include
MOOCS, SWAYAM,Coursera, Skillshare, Udemy, Codecademy, Edx,
Pluralsight, Future Learn, and Moodle.Apart from online learning platforms,
we also have online course platforms like LearnWorlds, Teachable,
Thinkific, Kajabi, and Podia.

MOOCs
A massive open online course (MOOC) is an online course
aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the Web.In addition to
traditional course materials, such as filmed lectures, readings, and problem
sets, many MOOCs provide interactive courses with user forums or social
media discussions to support community interactions among students,
professors, and teaching assistants (TAs), as well as immediate feedback
to quick quizzes and assignments. MOOCs are a widely researched
development in distance education, first introduced in 2008, that emerged
as a popular mode of learning in 2012. Poster, entitled "MOOC, every letter
is negotiable", exploring the meaning of the words "massive open online
course. Early MOOCs (cMOOCs: Connectivist MOOCs) often emphasized
open-access features, such as open licensing of content, structure and
learning goals, to promote the reuse and remixing of resources. Some later
MOOCs (xMOOCs: extended MOOCs) use closed licenses for their course
materials while maintaining free access for students.
5
SWAYAM
SWAYAM (meaning 'Self') is a Sanskrit acronym that stands for "Study
Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds". It is an Indian Massive
open online course (MOOC) platform. The SWAYAM initiative was
launched by the then Ministry of Human Resource Development (M.H.R.D.)
(now Ministry of Education), Government of India under Digital India to give
a coordinated stage and free entry to web courses, covering all advanced
education, High School and skill sector courses. It was launched on 9th
July 2017 by the Honorable President of India.
The courses hosted on SWAYAM are in 4 quadrants – (1) video lecture, (2)
specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded/printed (3)
self-assessment tests through tests and quizzes and (4) an online
discussion forum for clearing the doubts. Steps have been taken to enrich
the learning experience by using audio-video and multimedia and state of
the art pedagogy / technology. In order to ensure that best quality content is
produced and delivered, nine National Coordinators have been appointed.
They are:
1. AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) for self-paced and
international courses
2. NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) for
Engineering
3. UGC (University Grants Commission) for non-technical
post-graduation education
4. CEC (Consortium for Educational Communication) for
under-graduate education
6
5. NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) for
school education
6. NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) for school education
7. IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) for out-of-school
students
8. IIMB (Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore) for management
studies
9. NITTTR (National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and
Research) for Teacher Training programme
Courses delivered through SWAYAM are available free of cost to the
learners, however learners wanting a SWAYAM certificate should register
for the final proctored exams that come at a fee and attend in-person at
designated centres on specified dates. Eligibility for the certificate will be
announced on the course page and learners will get certificates only if
these criteria are matched. Universities/colleges approving credit transfer
for these courses can use the marks/certificate obtained in these courses
for the same.
The main features of this project:
1. One-stop web and mobile-based interactive e-content for all courses
from High School to University level.
2. High-quality learning experience using multimedia on anytime,
anywhere basis.
3. State of the art system that allows easy access, monitoring and
certification.
4. Peer group interaction and discussion forum to clarify doubts
5. A Hybrid model of delivery that adds to the quality of classroom
teaching.
7
COURSERA
Coursera is a U.S.-based massive open online course provider founded in
2012 by Stanford University computer science professors Andrew Ng and
Daphne Koller. Coursera works with universities and other organizations to
offer online courses, certifications, and degrees in a variety of subjects. In
2021 it was estimated that about 150 universities offered more than 4,000
courses through Coursera.
HISTORY
Coursera was founded in 2012 by Stanford University computer science
professors Andrew Ng and Daphne Koller started offering their Stanford
courses online in fall 2011,and soon after left Stanford to launch Coursera.
Princeton, Stanford, the University of Michigan and the University of
Pennsylvania were the first universities to offer content on the
platform.Offerings have since expanded to include Specializations –
collections of courses that build skills in a specific subject – as well as
degrees and a workforce development product for businesses and
government organizations. In 2014 Coursera received both the Webby
Winner (Websites and Mobile Sites Education 2014) and the People's
Voice Winner (Websites and Mobile Sites Education) awards.
IMPACT
In 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Coursera launched a
course by the Jameel Institute at Imperial College London.Called "Science
Matters: Let's Talk About COVID-19",the course was the most popular
launched on Coursera in 2020, with over 130,000 enrolled learners that
year. The course was presented by Jameel Institute research lead
Professor Helen Ward and deputy director Dr Katharina Hauck, with
specific modules in collaboration with other researchers from across
Imperial.

CONCLUSION
A learning system based on formalised teaching but with the help of
electronic resources is known as E-learning. While teaching can be based
in or out of the classrooms, the use of computers and the Internet forms the
major component of E-learning. E-learning can also be termed as a
network enabled transfer of skills and knowledge, and the delivery of
education is made to a large number of recipients at the same or different
times. Earlier, it was not accepted wholeheartedly as it was assumed that
this system lacked the human element required in learning.
Remote learning platforms are the future of education. Even after the
global health crisis is over, there will likely be a surge of students looking to
improve their knowledge and career through self-paced online training. A
significant advantage of online learning is that you can learn anything you
want! You can advance your academic career or choose to study
something else entirely. You can polish your soft skills or take those art or
music production lessons you’ve always wanted to attend. If you are
searching for a program to help you start a career in IT, then
MyComputerCareer could be just the right fit. Contact us for more
information about how you can obtain an online certificate in an IT field that
will make you a computer expert. We’d love to answer any questions you
may have!
