2. Introduction
In this presentation we will show you the causes, signs and symptoms, what to do, and the effects on the body of electric shock.
3. Causes
โขTouching a high-voltage source, such as high-tension wires that fall during a storm. Touching someone who is still touching a live current. Touching a low-voltage current source, such as an electric socket or worn cord.
โขMixing water and electricity.
โขContact with electricity from a high-voltage wire needs emergency medical care. Contact with electricity from a low-voltage current needs emergency medical care if any signs or symptoms are present. A person who does not have any symptoms should still see a doctor to check for possible internal injuries.
4. Signs and Symptoms
โขShocking sensations. Numbness or tingling. A change in vision, speech, or in any sensation.
โขBurns or open wounds. These occur where the electricity enters and exits the body.
โขMuscle spasms or contractions.
โขSudden immobility or fractures. A body part may looked deformed.
โขInterrupted breathing. Irregular heartbeats or chest pain.
โขSeizures.
โขUnconsciousness.
5. Effects on the Body
โขShock, a state of circulatory collapse caused by acute loss of blood or fluids from the body; by expansion of blood vessels, causing blood to pool in parts of the body; or by damage to the heart, affecting the heart's ability to pump blood through the body, or by a decrease in function of all the cellular elements making up the circulatory system. In all cases the circulatory system is not functioning normally, and blood is not being pumped at the usual pressure and in the usual amount, resulting in a deficiency of blood flow to peripheral tissues. The initial symptoms of shock include weakness, weak thread pulse, low arterial pressure, pallor, sweating, rapid heart rate, nausea, restlessness, confusion, and apathy. Loss of consciousness may also occur.
6. What to do?
โขIf you get shocked seek medical help ASAP
โข If you see someone getting shocked try to turn off the source with a wooden board
โข Even if you feel fine go to the doctor
