The Sherlock Holmes star went down the old-fashioned route to announce his engagement with girlfriend Sophie Hunter – a newspaper announcement. His parents published an advertisement in The Time’s ‘Forthcoming Marriages’ section that reads: “Mr BT. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter: The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London.”

The Sherlock Holmes star went down the old-fashioned route to announce his engagement with girlfriend Sophie Hunter – a newspaper announcement. His parents published an advertisement in The Time’s ‘Forthcoming Marriages’ section that reads:

The news of the beloved British actor’s engagement with 38-year-old theater director and actress came on Wednesday. And we are still waiting to see the engagement ring on Hunter’s ring finger. No words heard from any side about the ring or wedding plans.

2. After the reports circulated in April about him having a girlfriend, Mr. Cumberbatch was photographed with Hunter at a French Open Tennis match in June. The couple acted alongside each other in 2009 film Burlesque Fairytales. Hunter also appeared in the film Vanity Fair.
Sophie, who received the 2007 Samuel Beckett Award for writing and directing the avant-garde play ‘The Terrific Electric‘ has numerous other directorial credits.
Benedict’s previous relationships include a 12-year romance with actress Olivia Poulet and a one year relationship with London-based artist Anna James.
