Creative thinking in_problem_solving
1. Creative thinking
in problem solving
Creative problem solving, a type of problem solving,
is the mental process of searching for a new and novel
creative solution to a problem, a solution which is
original and not obvious.
2. ● Tools and methodologies to support creativity:
– Brainstorming
– Think outside the box
– Five Ws
– SWOT analysis
– Method Herrmann - right brain / left brain
– TRIZ method
3. Brainstorming
Rules:
1. There are no dumb ideas.
2. Don’t criticize other people’s ideas.
3. Build on other people’s ideas.
4. Reverse the thought of “quality over
quantity.”
Create a List of Lead Questions
During the brainstorm session, creativity may
decrease. At this moment, the chairperson
should stimulate creativity by suggesting a lead
question to answer, such as “Can we combine
these ideas?” or “How about a look from
another perspective?” It is advised to prepare a
list of such leads before the session begins.
Variations on Classic Brainstorming:
Group Passing Technique
4. Think outside the box
● Thinking outside the box is a metaphor that means to think differently,
unconventionally, or from a new perspective.
The "nine dots" puzzle.
The goal of the puzzle
is to link all 9 dots
using four straight
lines or fewer, without
lifting the pen and
without tracing the
same line more than
once.

5. ● Solution:
The puzzle proposed an intellectual
challenge—to connect the dots by
drawing four straight, continuous lines
that pass through each of the nine
dots, and never lifting the pencil from
the paper.
The conundrum is easily resolved, but
only by drawing the lines outside
the confines of the square area
defined by the nine dots themselves.
The puzzle only seems difficult because people commonly imagine
a boundary around the edge of the dot array.
6. Five Ws
● The Five Ws, Five Ws and one H, or the Six Ws are questions whose answers are
considered basic in information-gathering.
● They constitute a formula for getting the complete story on a subject.
● According to the principle of the Five Ws, a report can only be considered complete if it
answers these questions starting with an interrogative word:
- Who is it about?
- What happened?
- When did it take place?
- Where did it take place?
- Why did it happen?
