Jing is a computer
service

That let’s you
capture basic video,

animation, and still
images

and share them in the
web.

Jing captures anything
you want to see

on your computer
screen,

as an Image or short
video

and let’s you share it
constantly.

Open your favorite
Browser

Search for
Jing Techsmith

Click Free Download

Click Start Windows
Download if you are
using Windows

or Start Mac
Download if you are
using Mac

It looks like the
image below

the faint one without
the mouse cursor.

Taking your
first capture

Jing can capture your
entire screen, a
window,

or a specific area of
the screen you
specify.

This is how you start
your capture.

Mouse-over the sun and three
little rays appear.

Click capture to initiate the
capture process.

Select an area of your
screen to capture.

You can select a
window, part of a
window,

or click and drag the
cross-hairs to select a
region.

Decide if you want to
capture an image or
video.

For this first capture,
we suggest you click
the Image button.

You can add arrows,
text and highlights to
images.

If you decide to
record a video,

Note: If you have a
microphone, you can
narrate your video

in addition to
capturing the action
on the screen.

Videos are limited to
5 minutes in length
for Jing.

Narrating a quick
video is a great way

to show someone
exactly what you
mean.

If it's the first time
you're making a
video,

Jing will ask you
which audio device
you'd like to use.

Click Capture Video Icon

There is a 3-second
countdown before
you're on!

The yellow filmstrip-
like vertical bands
start scrolling

to indicate a
recording is in
progress.

Click the Pause button
to gather your
thoughts

or bring a new
window or
application into the
recording area.

Click
the Restart button if
you made a blunder

and just want to start
the recording over.

Click Stop to
conclude recording.

Your video is
displayed in the Jing
Preview window.

Check to make sure
the audio sounds
right

and you recorded
everything you meant
to.

Now it's time to save
or share the video.

Saving a video and
then attaching it to
an email

or others can be
problematic.

A lot of computers
don't know how to
open

the videos created
with the free version
of Jing.

Often you need to
drag the video into a
web browser to play
it.

A better solution
might be to use the
Screencast.com
button

then share the link
with others.

People that click the
link see what you
captured.

What is
Screencast.com?

Screencast.com is
TechSmith's media
hosting solution and it
works great with Jing.

Jing uses
Screencast.com to
securely host your
content

since it's perfect for
the kind of images
and videos

you'll want to make
with Jing.

The COPY
Button

The Copy button only
appears in the
Jing Image Preview
Window.

You cannot copy
videos.

You can change the
button description
(name),

Click More >
Preferences.

Click Customize Jing
Buttons.

Click the existing
Copy button to edit
its description
(name).

Click Save.

The SAVE
Button

Click Save, choose a
location, and
confirm.

you can make
additional Save
buttons that will
instantly save

your content to a
specified location.

To create a new
description name for
Save button:

Click More >
Preferences.

Click Customize Jing
Buttons.

Click New.

Give the button a
description. For
example,

if you're saving to the
Desktop, you could
call it, "Save to
Desktop".

If you want Jing to
always save to a
specific location,

click the drop down
and select Other...

instead of Always
prompt me.

Navigate to the
location where you
would like this
button

to send your
content.

When you're in the
right location,
click Select or OK.

Click Save.

Jing Capture
History

Jing remembers
everything you
capture on your
computer

and stores the
images and videos as
thumbnails in the
History.

Click History.

Click the View icon
(or double-click the
thumbnail)

to open the content
in the Jing Preview
Window.

Click the Share icon
to re-copy the image
and video's link

back to your clipboard.

Click the Delete icon
to delete your
capture

from the History and
its stored location.

Try Jing for a free and simple

and short videos of your
