1. Least Mastered Competencies in Mathematics in the New Normal of
Grade 10 Learners of San Vicente National High School in Quarter
1 of Academic Year 2022-2023
2. What is Our Study All About?
In San Vicente National High School, the researcher, who is a Bachelor
of Secondary Education major in Mathematics as well observed that before
the pandemic, Grade 10 students experienced difficulties in some concepts
in Mathematics which influence the underachievement in some of the
learning competencies. This notion provided the researcher the idea that
students must have time to reflect on why such difficulties are encountered
by the students as a self-reflection is a potentially promising pedagogical
approach for supporting math learning. This idea is important to know deep
insights of the students while learning and solving different mathematical
problems and concepts. It is essential for teachers to emphasize
3. growth and learning in Mathematics, and de-emphasize
performance, in order that students stay motivated and
encouraged about their learning. With this, the researcher
investigated the least learned competencies through
students’ reflections on certain topics in mathematics cited
above and the different factors affecting the acquisition of
skills wherein it can be used as a guide for teachers in
improved instruction and enhancement teaching
methodologies and strategies.
4. Statement of the Problem
This study aims to determine the Least Mastered Competencies in
Mathematics of Grade 10 learners of San Vicente National High
School in Quarter 1 of Academic Year 2022-2023.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following:
1. What are the demographic profile of the Grade 10 learners in terms
of:
a) Age;
b) Gender;
c) Grades in mathematics in quarter 1;
5. 2. What level of understanding of grade 10 students towards mathematics in
terms of ;
a) Remembering;
b) Understanding;
c) Applying;
d) Analyzing;
e) Evaluating;
f) Creating
3. What are the challenges encountered in the new-normal that affects the
mastery of competencies of the grade 10 learners?
4. Is there a significant relationship between the between the Least Mastered
Competencies of grade 10 and the New Normal Transition?
6. The Effect of Modular Learning to the Understanding of
Grade 7 Students of San Vicente National High School
Towards Mathematics
7. What is Our Study All About?
The K–12 Basic Education Curriculum lists mathematics as a general
education subject in the Philippines, where students are expected to
understand and appreciate its principles as they are applied to problem-
solving, critical thinking, communicating, reasoning, making connections,
representations, and decisions in everyday life.
However, modular learning is introduced during pandemic in the
Philippines. Modular learning is the approach where the focus is on
learning outcomes, and its success relies on connecting outcomes to student
learning and course design. Self-learning modules (SLMs) are used by
students together with other learning resources including activity sheets,
study aids, and other study materials. SLMs can be used by students in
8. print, digital, or electronic form, depending on the learner's needs. Both
printed SLMs and electronic versions of the course materials are available
to learners. The duty of keeping track of the students' progress falls to the
teacher by examining the work they have turned in or dropped off at school
each Friday. During office hours, students can contact the instructor by
phone, email, text message, instant message, and other means.
Additionally, our increasingly technology- and information-based society,
mathematical proficiency has become as important a gatekeeper as literacy
and, thus, critically important for all members of society to achieve.
Unfortunately, students are not achieving this proficiency. The majority of
grade 7 students struggle to complete simple integer multiplication
problems and have issues with other aspects of mathematics.
9. Statement of the Problem
This study aims to determine the effect of modular learning to the
understanding of grade 7 students of San Vicente National High School
towards Mathematics.
Specifically, this study sought to provide answer to the following
questions:
1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of; a. Age
b. Gender
c. Grade Level
d. Grade in mathematics During Grade 6
e. Grade in mathematics During Grade 7 First Quarter
f. Availability of gadgets
10. 2. What level of understanding of grade 7 students towards mathematics in
terms of;
a. Problem Solving
b. Communication
c. Representation
3. What are the challenges and problems met in the implementation of
modular distance learning modality?
4. Is there a significant difference between the effect of modular learning to
the understand of grade 7 students towards Mathematics when grouped
according to the demographic profile?
5.What is the level of performance of the learners towards Mathematics before
and after exposure to the developed module?
11. Effects of Collaborative Learning Technique on Mathematics
Learning Achievement Among Grade 10 Students in San
Vicente National High School
12. What is Our Study All About?
Collaborative learning is a term used to describe classroom approaches
in which students collaborate in small groups of two or more people. Each
community is responsible for completing specific tasks in order to achieve
a specific objective. To conclude that collaborative learning is one of the
strategies used by several studies , all of which agree that it enhances
students ' performance and retention of school knowledge , mastery of it
and application in other educational contexts , and increases their
motivation to learn. According to National Education Association (NEA),
collaborative learning has been shown to not only develop higher-level
thinking skills in students, but boost their confidence and self-esteem as
well. Group projects can maximize educational experience by
13. demonstrating the material, while improving social and
interpersonal skills. Students learn how to work with
various types of learners and develop their leadership
skills. This study shed light on the importance of
collaborative learning in improving students' educational
success. The aim of our study is to determine the
effectiveness of collaborative learning on student's
educational performance in Mathematics for college
students in Pangasinan State University Alaminos Campus.
