• High key lighting was first used to create contrast in old films as the equipment they used
would not work well if there was a high contrast.
• High key lighting is now used create the mood and atmosphere in an image, it creates a
happy and upbeat feel and also has a safe feeling to it as there is no darkness.
• High key lighting is mainly used in sitcoms and comedies.
• It is used in Hollywood as it is well suited to three point lighting.
3. LOW KEY LIGHTING
• Low key lighting is when there is lots of shadows in a scene or shot, there is a high
lighting ratio.
• Low key lighting is used to show tension and mystery in an audience.
• It is mainly used in horror and thriller genre as it helps to create the atmosphere that is
wanted in that genre of film.
4. AMBIENT LIGHTING
• Ambient light is the light that is already in a scene or shot, it is naturally lighting from
outside.
• It can also be artificial lighting, such as room lighting that is already in the room that is
being filmed in.
