5. INTRODUCTION
• The protection and preservation of the environment is one
of the most important issue facing humankind today.
• A clean environment is essential for healthy living.
• Education can play a very essential role to protect or
preserve environment.
• Education has the power to modify the society and
present better knowledge to its populace.
6. ENVIRONMENT
“The sum of the total of the elements, factors and
conditions in the surroundings which may have an
impact on the development, action or survival of an
organism or group of organisms”.
OR
“The circumstances, objects, or conditions by which
one is surrounded.”
7. PRESERVATION
“Preservation is the act of maintaining,
protecting or keeping something in existence. It is
also a process that keeps organic things from
decomposing.”
8. CONSERVATION & PRESERVATION
CONSERVATION PRESERVATION
• It is generally associated with
the protection of natural
resources
• It is associated with the
protection of buildings,
objects, and landscapes.
• It typically refers to attempts
to make humans’ relationship
with the environment
sustainable while still
extracting natural resources
• It typically refers to the setting
aside of areas of land that are
either human-free, free of
obvious marks of human
influence like roads or fire
pits.
9. ENVIRONMENTAL PRESERVATION
“Environmental preservation is the practice
of protecting the natural environment by
individuals, organizations and governments.
Its objectives are to conserve natural
resources and the existing natural
environment and, where possible, to repair
damage and reverse trends.”
11. ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
Some of the current environmental issues that require urgent attention are:
Climate Change
Global Warming
Ozone Layer Depletion
Water Pollution
13. CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change is a great concern in today’s
scenario.
Greenhouse gases are the major cause of
climate change.
Environmental changes have several
destructive impacts such as the melting of
glaciers, change in seasons, epidemics, etc.
14. GLOBAL WARMING
The increase in temperature across
the globe is known as global
warming.
The burning of fossil fuels,
emissions from the automobiles and
CFCs add to the greenhouse gases in
the atmosphere.
This has led to an increase in earth’s
temperature causing environmental
15. OZONE LAYER DEPLETION
The ozone layer is a layer of concentrated
ozone gas.
It protects us from the sun’s harmful
ultraviolet rays.
This very important layer is being
destroyed by CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons),
which are used in industries and everyday
life (e.g. aerosol cans).
16. WATER POLLUTION
Water is the main source of life and
therefore it is our prime duty to prevent it
from any kind of pollution.
The introduction of harmful substances
into rivers, oceans, lakes and ponds,
which changes the physical, chemical or
biological condition of water is called
water pollution.
The polluted water lacks oxygen.
17. AIR POLLUTION
Air pollution is the result of emissions
from the industries, automobiles, and
increasing use of fossil fuels.
The gaseous emissions have added to an
increase in the temperature of the earth.
Not only this, it had also increased the
risk of diseases among individuals.
18. SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT
Solid-waste management is defined
as the discipline associated with the
generation, storage, collection,
transfer and transport, processing,
and disposal of solid waste in a
manner that it does not have a
harmful effect on the environment.
19. DEFORESTATION
Deforestation is the depletion of trees
and forests at an alarming rate.
The trees provide us with oxygen and
several raw materials, and also
maintain the temperature of the earth.
Due to the depletion of trees for
commercial purposes, there has been a
drastic change in the earth’s climate.
20. OVER POPULATION
The earth’s population is
increasing drastically.
It is estimated to be more than
seven billion.
The increasing population has
led to the shortage of resources.
If this is the case, it will be very
difficult to sustain such a huge
population.
21. ROLE OF EDUCATION IN ENVIRONMENTAL
PRESERVATION
Environmental education deals with the need to protect the environment
because global warming, pollution, and many other issues are ruining our
environment badly.
One of the most effective means to promote healthy environment is giving
proper education to both new as well as old generations.
Education can stand as a proper solution to solve different sorts of problems
exist in a community.
22. EDUCATIONAL AWARENESS OF
ENVIRONMENTAL PRESERVATION
Everyone in society including kids, youths, adults and mature people can
understand and become aware of the various environmental issues if they get
proper education on it.
Education can give right knowledge on how natural environment functions, and
how human beings can deal with behavior and ecosystems for sustainability.
In the present day, a lot of people conduct an environmental awareness program in
schools and societies.
23. EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE ON HOW
TO PRESERVE ENVIRONMENT
Environmental education teaches individuals and communities to know about the
environment and its related issues.
Environmental education can be provided by the use of audio-visual programs,
seminars, training programs, environmental awareness campaign, etc.
Education on the environment will guide people to think seriously, deeply, and
productively.
24. EDUCATION INCREASES AWARENESS AND
CONCERN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
The completion of higher levels of education does not automatically
translate into more responsible behavior towards the environment.
In the 2010-2012 World Values Survey, when forced to choose between
protecting the environment versus boosting the economy, those respondents
with secondary education favored the environment more than those with
less than secondary education.
25. OTHER’S:
•Education encourages individuals to preserve the
Environment
•Education encourages people to use energy and water more
efficiently and recycle household waste
•Education supported with global political leadership
26. BENEFITS OF ENVIRONMENTAL
EDUCATON
Imagination and enthusiasm are heightened
Learning transcends the classroom
Critical and creative thinking skills are enhanced
Tolerance and understanding are supported
State and national learning standards are met for multiple subjects
27. CONT….
Biophobia and nature deficit disorder decline
Healthy lifestyles are encouraged
Communities are strengthened
Responsible action is taken to better the environment
Students and teachers are empowered
28. SUGGESTIONS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL
PRESERVATION
Following are some of the most common solutions to the environmental issue:
Buy less plastic and bring a reusable shopping bag.
The use of paper should be avoided.
Conserve water and electricity.
Support environmental friendly practices.
29. CONT….
Recycle the waste to conserve natural resources.
Choose non-toxic chemicals in the home and office.
Throw garbage not on the roads but in the dustbins placed at the side
of the roads.
Use cycles for near travelling instead of petrol vehicles.
30. CONT….
Reduce, reuse and recycle: Follow the three “R’s” to preserve natural
resources and landfill space.
Use long-lasting light bulbs: Energy efficient light bulbs reduce greenhouse
gas emissions. Also flip the light switch off when you leave the room.
Plant a tree: Trees provide food and oxygen. They help save energy, the clean
air, and help combat climate change
31.
32. CONCLUSION
A clean environment is essential for healthy living.
Environmental education teaches individuals and communities to know about the
environment and its related issues
Environmental issues are a warning of the upcoming disaster. If these issues are not
controlled, there will soon be no life on earth. So these must be resolved as soon as
possible by making more efforts by every citizen.
