3. Introduction
We all know that the world is facing a major threat of fast
depletion of the fossil fuel reserves.
Most of the present energy demand is met by fossil and
nuclear power plants.
A small part is met by renewable energy technologies such
as the wind, solar, biomass, geothermal etc. There will
soon be a time when we will face a severe fuel shortage.
As per the law of conservation of energy, “Energy can
neither be created, nor be destroyed, but it can only be
converted from one form to another”.
4. Wind Energy
Wind energy is the world’s fastest growing energy source,
it is renewable source of electric power.
The earth surface has both land and water, when the sun
rises the air over the land head and up quicker than that
over water, heated air is lighted and rise, the cool air are
falls and replace the air over the land and in night this
process are reverse.
The moving air as huge amount of Kinetic energy and it
can be transfer into electrical energy by the help of wind
mill.
5. Solar Energy
Solar power is energy from the sun. "Solar" is the Latin word for
"sun" and it's a powerful source of energy. Without it, there will
be no life. Solar energy is considered as a serious source of
energy for many years because of the vast amounts of energy
that is made freely available, if harnessed by modern
technology.
Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun that is
harnessed using a range of ever-evolving technologies such as
solar heating, photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, solar
architecture and artificial photosynthesis.
It is an important source of renewable energy and its
technologies are broadly characterized as either passive solar or
active solar depending on how they capture and distribute solar
energy or convert it into solar power.
6. Combination of Solar-Wind
Combination of solar-wind is an alternative approach to
producing clean, non-polluting energy from two of the
most abundant renewable energy sources.
This system uses a hybrid solar panel and wind turbine
generator to create electricity which is then stored in
batteries.
Some locations have an abundance of sun while others
have an abundance of wind. Having a combination system
allows you to take the most advantage of the prevailing
weather conditions to maximize energy production.
7. Advantage of Combination of
Solar-Wind Power System
• When one source isn't
available (overcast skies or
calm air), the system will
still be able to provide
energy from the alternate
energy source. The clean,
emission-free power acts as
a reliable backup or
supplemental power source.
• When both sun and wind is
present, the batteries will
charge even faster.
9. •Intermittent energy resources and energy resources unbalance
are the most important reason to install a hybrid energy supply
system. The Solar PV wind hybrid system suits to conditions
where sunlight and wind has seasonal shifts.
•As the wind does not blow throughout the day and the sun does
not shine for the entire day, using a single source will not be a
suitable choice. A hybrid arrangement of combining the power
harnessed from both the wind and the sun and stored in a
battery can be a much more reliable and realistic power source.
The load can still be powered using the stored energy in the
batteries even when there is no sun or wind.
•In the monsoon seasons, the effect of sun is less at the site and
thus it is to use a hybrid wind solar system.
•The system components are as above.
10. Advantages of Hybrid System
Very high reliability (combines wind power, and solar power)
Long term Sustainability and Long term warranty
High energy output (since both are complimentary to each
other)
Cost saving (only one time investment)
Low maintenance cost (there is nothing to replace)
No pollution, Clean and pure energy
Provides un-interrupted power supply to the equipment
The system gives quality power out-put DC to charge directly
the storage battery or provide AC.
The system can be designed for both off-grid and on grid
applications.
Efficient and easy installation, longer life
11. Disadvantages of Hybrid
System
Large number of harmonics is produced.
Initial investment is more.
Large space is required for larger generations
Wind energy systems are noisy in operation; a large unit
can be heard many kilometers away.
Efficiency is less than conventional power plants.
The arrangement becomes complicated due to hybrid
structure.
Large space is required for larger generations.
12. a)Wind Condition: The wind condition in
Lucknow are given below;
Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr. May Jun. Jul. Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec.
WIND SPEED
(KNOTS) 4 5 6 7 6 6 6 5 6 4 4 4
WIND SPEED (M/S) 2.06 2.57 3.09 3.6 3.09 3.09 3.09 2.57 3.09 2.06 2.06 2.06
WIND SPEED (MPh) 6.04 7.55 9.06 11 9.06 9.06 9.06 7.55 9.06 6.04 6.04 6.04
13. b)Size of wind mill:
The average wind speed in Lucknow is 8mph (3m/s).
The power in one square foot area of such wind is nearly 5
watt.
The theoretical maximum efficiency occurs when wind is
slowed down to 2/3 its initial speed which would give around
an absolute maximum of 59.3% efficiency. Old-style farm
windmills have around 30% maximum efficiency. This means
that one should expect to capture around 1.5 watts of the wind's
power (30% of 5 Watts) for each square foot of a traditional
windmill-type design.
Therefore, a 10-foot-diameter farm-style windmill (78
square feet of area) can realistically be expected to be
capable of creating about a consistent 60 Watts of usable
electricity.
17. Cost Estimation
Equipments Prices ₹
Solar Panel (100W) 6000/-
Battery (12V) 8000/-

18. Conclusion
By this project many villages can be lighted. For villages
which are much away from the construction site of large
power generating stations such as hydro and nuclear can
be provided power.
Also to satisfied the increasing demand of electricity with
clean hybrid power station by solar –wind can be used.
The project has been successfully designed & constructed,
which is able to collect sun radiation and wind velocity
all the day to operate the system. It can be commercially
applicable in village and remote areas where air velocity
and sun radiation is perfectly available.
