1. TRANSLATION DOCTORATE APPLICATION
riche.
As a current Masters student of quantitative sociology, I am keen to complete my
education with a post-graduate research scholarship in the field of information processing
and applied statistics. Throughout my training to date, I have focused on statistical
analysis and how it is applied to economic and social phenomena. Indeed my Masters
thesis looked at instances of qualitative analysis and how it is applied to the social
sciences.
In order to complete my thesis (under the guidance of *********** I carried out a statistical
survey from scratch at the Faculty where I was studying. The title of this survey was: “By
love or by force? A survey to identify the influencing factors behind class choices within
the Economics Faculty”.
In contrast, my Master's research project (under the guidance of **********), looked at
testing L.A.Bebchuck's (Harvard University) hypothesis of "Public outrage constraint".
According to this hypothesis, CEO compensation was constrained by harsh criticism from
all quarters. After reviewing articles in the mainstream press and the specialist French
press (available in the Factiva electronic database), my research specifically looked at the
statistical relationship between public reaction and the evolution in Management
compensation structures (using the Proxinvest statistical data) between 1989 and 2013.
The internships I have done within the Italian National Statistical System, and within a
French company specialising in data processing (SocioLOGICIEL Paris), have allowed me
to acquire a large range of solid and concrete methodological tools: for example, studying
highly variable phenomena, conducting studies from start to finish, familiarising myself
with different software (R, SPSS, NodeXL, Excel etc..).
Similarly, the various academic projects I have been involved in, at both a national and
international level, have helped me enormously in terms of building my team working skills
and learning various languages.
The opportunity to complete a post-graduate research scholarship would represent a
successful conclusion to my education and training. If I was afforded this opportunity, I
would be able to offer you my experience in the practical application of theoretical skills
relevant to research.
As a dynamic individual, I would like to find a stimulating environment that will allow me to
hone my skills and offer me a fulfilling experience.
