ALI DEMIRCAN
I had the pleasure of meeting Ali Demircan at the 9th Istanbul Gastronomy Festival, held at Tuyap
between 17 and 20 February 2011.
I have been involved with the Gastronomy Festival since its inception and I am responsible for
organising all the paperwork in regard to entries for both Practical and Static Competition Classes,
together with the Results and passing on information to other sections. Some of this work is
carried out at my home in England prior to the event and I had therefore had contact with Ali for
a couple of months prior to the Festival.
Ali was himself new to this Festival so relied on me to guide him as to my requirements. He
always answered E-Mails very promptly and telephoned me to make sure everything was going
smoothly. Fortunately for me his English was excellent so I did not have any problems in making
him understand my requests.
The Festival itself, as always, is a very hectic time but Ali was always there to help out if
necessary, with a true understanding that my administrative side had to be correct otherwise there
would be ongoing problems. He was always sorting out queries, be it transport, results,
certificates, additional entries, translating – there was never a time when he was not dealing with
someone or something.
During the whole period I worked with Ali, he always had a smile on his face and was very calm
in his approach to all situations.
He will certainly be a tremendous asset to any employer and I sincerely hope I have the pleasure
of working with him again.
