1. “A Look Into My Life”
As a young girl I was always an entrepreneur looking for more ways to creat an
income to gain independence & a form of freedom in my youth. My first job was a
babysitter at the age of 11. I babysat for family and friends on weekends. When I reached
the age of 13 and felt I could take on more responsibility I decided to expand on
babysitting and recruited to of my Jr. High School friends and for two summers we ran a
Kids Day Camp at a local park in our neighborhood. After doing that I decided to make
my own business card and self promoted my babysitting services throughout my
neighborhood as well as friends of others who I was currently providing my services to.
Then with the help of my mother I was extended the opportunity to work my first job
through an old Co-worker of hers who was Managing a Retail Store by the name of Big
Dog Sportswear at an Outlet in Camarillo I was given the position of a Sales Associate.
From there I transferred to the food industry Working as a Host at Chili's Grill & Bar in
Oxnard. After working as a host for sometime I felt I was ready to move forward and
become a server but at the time they had no positions available and another opportunity
came knocking so I answered and started my first Coffee Shop job as a Barista. Here I
learned how to master every drink and smoothy, along with obtaining an extreme amount
of knowledge in the Coffee & Tea Industry. My manager Kent at the time notice the
potential in me and took me under his wing; providing me the tools and knowledge
teaching me and preparing me to be a skilled, & efficient Manager. I learned the
importance of being a team player, team leader, training new staff, marketing,
maintaining overhead costs and keeping them low while maintaining a steady
productivity level and stable profit margin. I worked my way up to becoming his
Assistant Manager and enjoyed the experience I was given. Unfortunately due to some
unexpected turn of events the Owners Decided to close the shop. At that time I was lucky
enough to transition back to Chili's as a server and continued working there while
attending FIDM working on my Merchandise Marketing Degree w/ a minor in Product
Development. I was able to work my way up becoming a host trainer, server, and cocktail
server as well as a reliable source point for my GM to do store to store transfers at a
moments notice. While working there I picked up a part time job at Express a retail store
in Thousand Oaks. I started as a Sales Associate and moved up to Fashion Expert in the
Denim Dept.. Now I could go on and on but to some it all up I was able to experience a
little bit of every working industry available to me because of my drive and willingness
to learn and explore new things. I worked for Companies like Starbucks, Coffee Bean &
Tea Leaf, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Eric Ericsson’s, Vons, etc….
I worked as a Volunteer Minister and aided in the rescue relief of the Hurricane
Katrina Victims. This was a life changing experience and I was happy I was able to aid in
brining life back to their community after the traumatic loss they experienced due to
uncontrollable events that occurred. Soon after that I moved back to Louisiana because I
was offered the opportunity to work for an independent record label doing grass root
promotions. I was giving the position of Executive Marketing Officer in the company and
handled all promotions, booking of shows, travel arrangements and more. I traveled the
bible belt promoting Indy artists and working with other various artists in the music
2. industry at the time. Unfortunately due to some financial issues and lack of funding the
Indy Label folded and we all went our separate ways but I was very fortunate in being
able to experience the work it takes to be in the industry and gained some great skills to
add to my resume.
I returned to California where I stated working for a lingerie Company by the name of
“Maidenform”. I started off ass a stock supervisor and within four months of working
with the company I became Assistant Store Manger. During the three year that I worked
with them I began traveling to other stores relieving other managers and assisting in
training other associates as well. I then left the company and stated working on
developing my own dreams along with my own family. While I was pregnant I made the
decision to start my own community nonprofit. I named the nonprofit “D.T.D. United
Foundation. This foundation was a community nonprofit that focused on developing
projects, dreams, and ideas that focused on uplifting their communities and aiding in
solving the living conditions in lower social economic areas. I’ve worked diligently in
developing and cultivating my dream for three years and am excited about launching it in
2015. I also worked for a Family owned Self Storage Facility “California Classic
Storage” for a year and a half during this time where I gained the knowledge of how to
manage and run a self storage facility, operate a forklift used for valeting boats, &
trailers. I also learned how to drive RV’s over 47ft and smaller valeting those for
customers as well.
I have much experience in freelance promotions for clubs, cafes, etc… I had my own
Hookah Catering business for over a year. I have done event planning for several
different people. Though I have a very broad range of skills I am always looking to gain
more knowledge and educate myself on many of the things that I could utilize to help add
myself in the work field as well as in life. I look forward to the many opportunities that
are to come in life, and hope that I can continue to grow into a positive influence in my
community as well as other individuals around me.
