2. The movie magazine, Empire. Contains
different film reviews and various ads for the
target audience. Their target audience seem
to be around the age of 18 and up due to
some of the adverts seem to involve some like
cars, clothing alcohol and movies. The ads
mostly contains DVDs/Blu-ray which is well
fitted with the magazine because it relevant
and people might consider buying them when
reading the magazine. When it comes to
social status you could say that it would range
from C to E because most of the royal family
wouldn’t go for such things but people who
watch movies on a week basic would probably
into this which would be a person like me
who enjoys watching movies.
3. This magazine is gaming and contains game
reviews and stories on gaming, such shown on the
cover; “how to build your own arcade” and “inside
Naughty Dog” this is a gaming company that
produce games such as Uncharted as it shows that
it is the main story it shows that when it says “The
story behind the biggest game of the year”. When
it comes to the adverts of the advert it seems it is
mostly relevant to the genre in that inspect gaming
it features a few games which could identify the
age group of audience most of the games were 18
so but there was one game that was a 9 so, that I
guess it is the minimum age and the maximum
could vary depending on if you like gaming
because gaming for computing such has been
going on for over 60 years so if there are any
people still living to tell their tales of their gaming
experiences that they still enjoy the new games of
this generation. There were other ads too but they
consist on other magazines so it was hard to
identify their target audience on that because they
advertised other genres too. For the social class it
would be the same for the empire magazine
because you don’t hear about the royals playing
computer games in their spare time.

8. Now I will analyse and discuses how the audience’s needs are
met by; Text, Colour, Design and layout and genre codes and
conventions.
So first there is text, this insist on what kind of language it
consists of such as informal or formal language and the font
that it uses. As for the sizes you can see there are over 5 sizes
font colour scene to be red, black and white. It seems formal
with no slang used in and it shows its main story as the
avengers it attracts the audience because it the film that comes
out the next month with exclusive as you can see on the badge
when it says ‘20-page marvel exclusive!’ The audience would
mostly read on when looking at the different size fonts and
words to be intrigued on what the stories are about such as
‘How to top the biggest superhero movie ever made’ this may
make the audience feel as though it can’t be beat “their
favourite superhero movie”. Then there is the double page
which I'll analyse, the most noticeable thing is the big ‘A’ as a
drop cap this could refer to the avengers as they use a similar
logo for most things in the film and is also used on the cover of
empire magazine, also can see the red text which can be
referred to a subhead. Other than that don’t think there is
anything for it. It could attract the audience using the drop cap
because they would see it in the movie and feel a connection
from it.
Text
9. Colour
Like I said in the previous slide the colours for the font
consist of; black, white and red. The other colours are of the
picture which features colours like; blue, gold, green, purple
and silver. It attracts the audience because it suits well with
the title which is red originally and seems to go in a pattern
as starts from the top with other films down to the names of
actors and actress it seems as though the pattern goes; red,
white, red, white, red. The badge on the left middle of the
cover has all three colours but that the only object that easy
see other than the banner like object over the masthead
which also share the same colours. This would attract the
audience because its not vivid with colours and easy on the
eyes for older viewers, therefore it works well on the front
cover. For colour on the two page spread seems to be similar
but takes the colours on captain America other than that its
about it for colours.
10. Design and Layout
Using Guttenberg principle this consists of; Primary Optical
area, Terminal area, Weak Fallow area and Strong Fallow rea. The
way we look at it is also called the axis of orientation this just
means that looking at the cover from the top left to the bottom
right. First is the Primary Optical area, as shown it shows a few
movies that are out this year but more importantly there is the
beginning of the masthead and the date and price is there. Then
across to the strong fallow area, this consist of the other half of
the masthead and a banner to the right corner showing another
story. As you go down to the weak fallow area you can see the
cast of the main story and there is badge it also feature the first
bit of the main story line and a few celebrities at the bottom.
Finally there is the Terminal area which features the last of the
main story title but more importantly it features the barcode. So
overall you can see that the page is well structured and attracts
the audience looking at each object making the audience look
inside. For this it simply article on the left side and the main
picture on the right this would be because its a small article and
it the start of the it.
11. Genre Codes &
Conventions
This would consist on mise en scene, style, language and
anchorage. So lets start with mise en scene, as shown the image
are the avengers this indicates that this is there main article, to
add to that they use sort of Repetition where it says ‘ More
heroes! More action! More robots!’ this would do alot for this
magazine to get audience because the avengers are well known
making people want to read about the upcoming film. Also
there are different stories to with name drops at the bottom to
gets peoples interests with that with films at the top just to
show what else they have got for their audience to read. There
is also a few small badges and a banner to show there stories in
case they didn’t seem to like the stories on the cover. So overall
as it shows its clear to see that it meets the audiences need
because the picture of the avengers makes fans want to read
about what happening in the story and find sneak peaks from
the film. For the two page spread I have probably already
mentioned the previous slides most that there is to need to
know about it when it comes to how the audience will be
attracted to it because of the drop cap and because of the
picture of captain America.
12. Text
Next is the Edge magazine, so for starters, you can see that
the bigger the font the more important it is, for example
the biggest text is the masthead letting the audience
know that edge is the magazine, then its the main article,
then lesser story and few titles to put in to place. The
language use seems to be formal with no slang.
Something that caught my was the text over the
masthead it stands out because it seems its in bold and
seem to be the only text that is in bold which seems to
me that it is one of the main stories other than the main
game that is advertised on the cover, other than that
there is only one title underlined maybe so some sort if
important to some fans. This would bring in there
audience depending on the story making them
interested to read on. It seems this page has alot more
things than the previous one I analysed so for reference
check the diagram I created a few slides back to see what
exactly it has but an overall of it would be that is formal
going into detailed on the story of the game as it also
follows with shots of the game using captions, drop caps
quotes, it would attract the audience because the
information that you can read makes the audience want
to read making it better for the reader.
13. Colour
The colour scheme seems to be red, white and few
other colours for the background is black and then
you have the photo which is a person’s face so it has
skin colours with light and shadow and shoulder s
show his shirt which seem to be a shade of blue. It
very smooth with the text because it makes it easy to
read but also still show off the good colouring
working well with the image, I would say that the
colouring could have something to do with the main
story because its the colour scheme to the game so
they used the same colour for their front cover to
show that it goes well to advertise it. It seems to be
very similar to the front cover so not much to say
about it but it works well and connects well with the
front cover even though it isn’t the same article.
14. Design & Layout
The layout seems to be the similar to the previous one with
having masthead in the strong fallow area and the primary
optical area, this also includes the story and a title to show
off the magazine and the website of the magazine to check
out more news from previous magazines. Then when you
go down can see the background picture of the character,
on top of that there is the title with a kicker, then at the
bottom you finish off with the other cover lines and a
badge identifying the issue of the magazine. It is well
structured for easy readers so that the people reading it
would have to look inside to find out more about the
stories because it doesn't reveal to much. For the
Guttenberg principle, it has a selection of photos on all
area, all based on the game ‘until dawn’ you can tell that
because primary optical area has the title of the game and
headline then you have some of the captions that are next
to their appropriate image, it is well designed very similar
to the cover making the audience appeal to it by reading it
easy enough, from left to right.
15. Genre Codes &
Conventions
For this one there is only one character for the image, it
is really neat and tidy so it attracts the audience
making the audience look at the page and wonder
what's inside but with that look at the image and
think how amazing gaming technology has come to
create such a realistic face for gaming compared to
the first game of the franchise. Other than that there
isn’t much to show as it keeps from telling you alot so
you can look inside to read more about the
interesting articles that it holds. Finally for the two
page spread there are shots of the game which
relevant to the caption and the text, also showing off
a famous actor like Hayden Panettiere people who
are familiar with her she is in things like Heroes but
she was in scream 4, so she came from one horror to
the next, this could show that she is well suited for
the role. Overall it would attract audience using the
image to tease the game but also giving detailed story
on the game so that people can read before they
decide to the game.
