Engineering Technical Manager
Responsible for the technical aspects and management of all
commercial diving projects undertaken by the Company. To date
this has included 8 portable saturation diving systems, 1 inbuilt
system, 4 HRF’s and various air spreads and system refurbishments.
Also appointed life support design authority for all work undertaken
by the company in Australia and South East Asia.
Divex was purchased by James Fisher and Sons in 2013 and was
merged in 2014 with its subsidiary company, James Fisher Defence,
to form JFD and within Australia have become involved in work
with the Royal Australian Navy in providing Submarine Escape and
Training as well as the commercial diving industry.

Sub-contracted to DIVEX ASIA PACIFIC to design control panels
for a modular diving system on behalf of the Company.

Responsible for the technical operation and design of diving
equipment supplied and manufactured by the Company.
Duties also included conducting training courses on dive equipment
maintenance, servicing and refurbishment of third party owned
diving equipment, panels, helmets, complete systems, etc.
Designed and built various air and mixed gas panels and
containerised air spreads to IMCA standards.

cleaning, coating, inspection and servicing machine.
Duties included, project planning, budgets, liaison with government

During breaks in the machine development various sub-contract
works were undertaken including:

Senior Project Engineer for the installation of the world’s first steel
catenary riser pipeline installed by J-Lay in 1000M water off Brazil
September 1998. Duties included the compilation of installation
manuals and offshore engineering.
DAWSON GROUP
Design of life support system on a manned rescue submersible for
the Royal Australian Navy.
STENA OFFSHORE
Supervision of the refurbishment and DNV certification of a single
lift 12-man saturation diving spread in Singapore.

Equipment Manager in Singapore. Duties included management of
workshop, mobilisation of diving system to install an FPSO in
Thailand, assist in compiling procedures for the sub-sea hook-up of
FPSO in both Thailand and Australia and evaluation & disposal of
surplus sub-sea equipment.

Project Management of underwater welding spread refurbishment
and mobilisation in Malaysia.
TAYLOR INTERNATIONAL DIVING
Project Management of the refurbishment and testing of diving
system, to Lloyd’s requirements, onboard Diving Support Vessel
during dry-dock in Dubai. The installation and testing of a mobile
diving unit onboard barge in Sharjah and during tow to India.
HALLIBURTON INTERNATIONAL
Client representative in Singapore and Vietnam to undertake a safety
audit on a saturation dive system prior to use offshore.

Project Manager for Cable & Wireless Marine Ltd. Responsible
for a multi million dollar conversion and upgrade of the diving
system onboard a multi purpose construction vessel for offshore use.
Duties included preparation of a comprehensive scope of work and
tender specification, provision of technical advice during pre-
contract award negotiations, project planning and to oversee all
phases of the work carried out by the successful bidder.
Preparing a successful bid package for the supply and installation of
a hyperbaric medicine centre to Fremantle Hospital including onsite
project management of the manufacture and installation of the
pressure vessels, control panels and associated pipework, electric’s
and civil works on behalf of Divex Ltd. (U.K.)
Project Management and site supervision of the installation and
commissioning of a 12 man diving system and underwater welding
system for Shipyard in Finland.

Compilation of technical and safety audits of equipment for Chevron
Petroleum, Stena Offshore, Northern Ocean Services and EMC Ltd
on behalf of Divex Ltd.
Project management of a diving bell refit for Divex Ltd
System Consultant to North East Shipbuilders. Responsible for
installation and commissioning of equipment supplied by French
and German companies for two specialised diving / well stimulation
vessels. Duties included liaison between shipyard, classification
authority, owners and suppliers.
Jan 1984 - Feb-1986 SEAFORTH ENGINEERING LIMITED
Installation Manager
Responsible to the Managing Director for project planning and
installation of equipment manufactured by the company.
This comprised mainly of diving systems but also covered material
handling equipment, conveyor belts, grain buckets etc.
The majority of this time was spent in the USSR managing the
installation and commissioning of pressure vessels, compressors,
refrigeration plant, control panels, pipework and electric’s
associated with saturation diving equipment on board three semi -
submersible drilling rigs under construction in Soviet shipyards.
Involved in negotiating contracts both technically and commercially
direct with the Soviet Authorities.

Project Engineer
Responsible for numerous projects worldwide involving the design,
costing, ordering and onsite supervision of equipment installed
within a tight budget and timescale. Duties included hydrotesting of
pressure vessels and pipework, liaison with Government and
Certification Authorities as well as the compilation of numerous
reports and feasibility studies into various sub-sea works related to
offshore exploration and production.
