IntroductionIntroduction
• Process Flow Diagram
– Is a summary level representation of the process
inputs and the process outputs that flow down
through all the processes with is a specific
knowledge area.
Process Flow Diagram
• The symbols for the process flow diagrams are
depict three types of information:
1. Knowledge area processes, their interaction with
other processes with in the knowledge area, and
their output to integration processes.
2. Process external to knowledge area, whose outputs
are used as input to the knowledge area process
under discussion.
3. Organizational process assets and enterprise
environmental factors are shown as inputs to the
first process.
Major Project Document
• There are three major documents described
within the PMBOK Guide and each has a
specific purpose:
– Project Charter. Formally authorizes the project.
– Project Scope Statement. States what work is to be
accomplished and what deliverables need to be
produced.
– Project Management Plan. States how the work will
be performed.

The Key to Overall Project Success:The Key to Overall Project Success:
Good Project Integration ManagementGood Project Integration Management
• Project managers must coordinate all of the
other knowledge areas throughout a project’s
life cycle
• Many new project managers have trouble
looking at the “big picture” and want to focus
on too many details
• Project integration management is not the
same thing as software integration
Project Integration ManagementProject Integration Management
• The integration nature of the project
management can better understood if we think
of other activities performed while completing a
project.
• Integration is primarily concerned with
effectively integrating the processes among the
project management process groups
04 project integration management
Project Integration ManagementProject Integration Management
• The integrative project management processes
includes:
– Develop project charter.
– Develop preliminary project scope statement.
– Develop project management plan.

Develop Project CharterDevelop Project Charter
• The project charter is the document that
formally authorizes the project.
• The project charter provides the project
manager with authority to apply the
organizational resources to project activities.
Develop Project CharterDevelop Project Charter
• Projects are usually charted and authorized external to
project organization by an enterprise, a government
agency, a company … etc as a result of one or more of
the following :
– A market demand.
– A business need.
– A customer request.
– A technological advance.
– A legal requirement.
– A social need.
Develop Project CharterDevelop Project Charter
• The project charter should address the following information:
– Requirement that satisfy customer, sponsor, and other stakeholder needs,
wants and expectations.
– Business needs, high-level project description, or product requirements
that the project is undertaken to address.
– Project purpose or justification.
– Assigned project manager and authority level.
– Summery milestone schedule.
– Stakeholder influence.
– Functional organizations and their participation.
– Organizational, environmental and external assumptions.
– Organizational, environmental and external constraints.
– Business case justifying the project, including return on investment.
– Summary budget.

Monitor and control project workMonitor and control project work • The Monitor and control project work is concerned with: – Comparing actual project performance against the project management plan – Assessing performance to determine whether any corrective or preventive actions are indicated, and then recommending those actions as necessary. – Analyzing, tracking, and monitoring project risks to make sure the risks are identified, their status is reported, and that appropriate risk response plans are being executed.
  • 31. Monitor and control project workMonitor and control project work cont.cont. – Maintaining an accurate, timely information base concerning the project’s product (s) and their associated documentation through project completion – Providing information to support status reporting, progress measurement, and forecasting. – Providing forecasts to update current cost and current schedule information. – Monitoring implementation of approved changes when and as they occur.
  • 33. Integrated Change ControlIntegrated Change Control • This process include the following change management activities in differing levels of detail, based upon the accomplishing of project execution: – Identifying that a change needs to occur or has occurred. – Influencing the factors that circumvent integrated change control so that only approved changes are implemented – Reviewing and approving requested changes. – Managing the approved changes when and as they occur, by regulating the flow of requested changes.
  • 34. Integrated Change Control cont.Integrated Change Control cont. – Maintaining the integrity of baselines by releasing only approved changes for incorporation into project products or services, and maintaining their released configuration and planning documentation. – Reviewing and approving all recommended corrective an preventive actions. – Controlling and updating the scope, cost, budget, schedule and quality requirements based upon approved changes, by coordinating changes across the entire project.
  • 35. Integrated Change Control cont.Integrated Change Control cont. – Documenting the complete impact of requested changes. – Validating defect repair. – Controlling project quality to standards base on quality reports.
  • 37. Integrated Change Control cont.Integrated Change Control cont. • Some of the configuration management activities included in the integrated change control process are: – Configuration Identification – Configuration status accounting. – Configuration verification and auditing
  • 38. Close ProjectClose Project • This process involves performing the project closure portion of the project management plan. • In multi-phase projects, this process closes out the portion of the project scope and associated activities applicable to a given phase.
  • 39. Close Project cont.Close Project cont. • Two procedures are developed to establish the interaction necessary to perform the closure activities across the entire project or for a project phase: 1. Administrative closure procedure. 2. Contract closure procedure
