3. Characteristics of a Lay
Leader
• 1. A Faithful Lay Leader:
 Faithful Brother Tychicus will tell you all the
news about me. He is a dear brother, a faithful
minister and fellow servant in the Lord. I am
sending him to you for the express purpose that
you may know about our circumstances and that
he may encourage your hearts.
He is coming with Onesimus, our faithful and
dear brother, who is one of you. They will tell you
everything that is happening here (Col.4:7-9)

4. • 2. A Diligent Lay Leader:
Use your heads (Wisdom and Skills) as you live
and work among outsiders. Don't miss a trick.
Make the most of every opportunity (Col. 4:5).
Surely you remember, brothers and sisters,
our toil and hardship; we worked night and
day in order not to be a burden to anyone
while we preached the gospel of God to you (1
Thess. 2:9). Working hard is one of the
hallmarks of Christian workers.

5.  So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that
you really are among those God has called and
chosen. Do these things and you will never fall away
(2 Peter1:10). How were you inferior to the other
churches, except that I was never a burden to you?
Forgive me this wrong! (2 Cor. 12:13, 11:9).

6. • 3. A Lay Leader is a Peacemaker:
Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to
bring out the best in others in a conversation,
not put them down, and not cut them out.
(Col. 4:6).
Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be
called children of God (Matt.5:9).

7. • 4. A Prayerful Lay Leader:
Saint Paul gives an example of a man who was
tireless in praying. He is none other than a
man of prayer and the co-worker of Lord’s
work.
Our Dear Brother Epaphras, who is one of
you, says hello. What a trooper he has been!
He's been tireless in his prayers for you,
praying that you'll stand firm, mature and
confident in everything God wants you to do.
(Col. 4:12).

8. • 5. A Godly Lay Leader:
A Godly Christian worker is not a man after his
own gain rather man for blessings of other
fellow beings.
Saint Paul encourages a co-worker to live a life
of purity as an example before the believers so
that no one may despise him. Don't let anyone
look down on you because you are young, but
set an example for the believers in speech, in
conduct, in love, in faith and in purity (1
Timothy 4:12).
