As Spring approaches, the earth will begin to awaken from
its winter slumber with buds and shoots of green. Its hard to imagine,
but underneath all the snow there are plants and animals (and insects)
waiting for the big thaw. While some might be more welcome than
others, they all work together to form the environment in which we live.
During March and April, check out the various green events around the
Town, and find out how you can make a green difference. Here are
a few ideas:
Power off all technology from 8:30-9:30 p.m. on March 29 for Earth
Hour. Log your hours at www.wwf.ca as part of the city challenge.
Drop off your old batteries and pick up some compost on April 12.

Visit the Bring Back the Atlantic Salmon fish tank at Main Branch and
see the eggs turn into fry.
Participate in the Library’s Green Living Day programs—see our Kids &

Plan your garden entry for Ajax in Bloom or learn about community
garden opportunities in your area.
Use your bike next time you need do a quick errand—many roads
have dedicated bike lanes and there is lots of great bike parking. Don’t
forget your helmet and your lock!
Community Volunteer Income Tax Program
Need a hand with your taxes? Volunteers trained by the Canada
Revenue Agency can help you complete your current income tax and
benefit return. The program is for individuals with low income and
simple tax situations. Clinics will be offered at the Main Branch.

Tea & Talk with Tanis Rideout

Meet Tanis Rideout, the author of this year’s Pass the
Book selection, Above All Things. Tanis is a well
known Toronto-based, Canadian poet. Above All Things
is her first novel. You’ll have a chance to hear her read
from her book, and you can ask her questions. Light
refreshments will be served.

In keeping with the theme of Above All Things, the grand prize is a family
adventure to Treetop Eco-Adventure Park in Oshawa where you will get to
experience their Aerial Tree Top Adventure course. It is an elevated obstacle
course set in the beautiful Oakridge Moraine and securely suspended
between the trees at 10 to 50 feet off the ground.
