Global markets at a glance
European shares rose on Wednesday after a five-day losing
streak caused by jitters over next week's British referen-
dum on European Union membership, with a reassuring
earnings update and bid talk boosting Zodiac Aerospace.
The pan-European FTSEurofirst 300 index ended up 0.9 per-
cent and the STOXX 600 index rose 1 percent. Both had
fallen to their lowest levels in nearly four months on Tues-
day and are down around 10 percent on the year to date.
Mining stocks were among the best performers, with Anglo
American and Antofagasta up by more than 6 percent, as
metal prices advanced.
Asia markets were trading lower on Thursday, with Japa-
nese stocks falling behind their peers due to renewed yen
strength against the dollar on the back of the Fed's rates
call. Australia's benchmark ASX 200 was up 0.77 percent,
with most sectors trading up. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 was
down 0.80 percent as the yen dropped to 105.61 against
the dollar in early morning trade, compared to levels
around 106.25 on Wednesday afternoon local time. Across
the Korean Strait, the Kospi traded near flat. Stateside, the
Dow Jones industrial average closed down 34.65 points, or
0.2 percent, at 17,640.17. The S&P 500 index was down
3.82 points, or 0.18 percent, at 2,071.50 and the Nasdaq
composite finished 8.62 points, or 0.18 percent, at
4,834.93. The Federal Open Market Committee held its in-
terest rate target at 0.5 percent on Wednesday, after a two
-day policy meeting.
Previous day Roundup
In a late rally triggered by cabinet decisions on SBI merger
and National Civil Aviation Policy. The Sensex was up
330.63 points or 1.2 percent at 26726.34, and the Nifty
ended 97.75 points or 1.2 percent at 8206.60. About 1660
shares have advanced, 961 shares declined, and 170 shares
are unchanged. NTPC, SBI, L&T. Maruti and Bharti Airtel
were top gainers in the Sensex while Dr Reddy's Labs,
M&M, Sun Pharma, Adani Ports and Axis Bank were losers.
An exit for Britain from the Eurozone is likely to result in
a sell-off for the euro and pound, and put upward pressure
on the US dollar.

Nifty in yesterday trading session stayed bullish all day.
But for today Nifty is expected to open weak, follow-
ing culmination of the Federal Reserve's two-day mone-
tary policy meeting where it stood pat on rates citing the
Brexit risk and after the recent weak US jobs data. So we
advise you to sell it around 8170 for the targets of 8080

COMMODITY ROUNDUP
Gold is dropped ahead the critical US FOMC meet. The
metal gained from lows near $1280 levels yesterday as good
speculative demand capped losses. European stocks edged
higher, snapping a five-day losing streak, as miners and re-
tailers advanced, while traders awaited outcome of the Fed-
eral Reserve's latest policy review. COMEX Gold futures are
currently trading at $1284 per ounce, down 0.25% on the
day. MCX Gold futures trade at Rs 30400 per 10 grams,
down half a percent on the day. Gold gained sharply earlier
this week. Global geopolitical risks soared over the weekend
after an American-born man who'd pledged allegiance to
ISIS shot down 50 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando. Eq-
uities slipped sharply after this attack as the sentiments
were already stressed on delicate global economic picture.
Goldman Sachs on Wednesday said it expects the oil price
recovery to stall near recent price levels, and crude will
need to trade between $45-$50 per barrel for the market to
reach a supply deficit in the second half of 2016. The bank
said it continues to expect that non-OPECproduction exclud-
ing the United States will decline by 4,30,000 barrels per
day this year to help put the market into the deficit.
The assumption of Fed not hiking the rates in the policy
meeting starting Wednesday has underpinned Copper from
lethargic levels. Prices of Copper gained 2% and surpassed
Rs 310 per kg in a single session. Till yesterday a trading
range of Rs 300 and 310 per kg was active in Copper. Prices
of Copper tested a high of Rs 311.75 per kg and a low of Rs
305 per kg. The Fed is unlikely to hike interest rates at the
end of its two-day policy meeting on Wednesday following a
recent batch of weak U.S. data, led by the non-farm payrolls
in May which grew the least since September 2010. In sepa-
rate news, Work to develop a large underground operation
at the Chuquicamata copper mine in northern Chile is on
track for production to begin in 2019.
Silver prices fell by Rs 22 to Rs 41,497 per kg in futures trade
as speculators trimmed their exposure amid a weak trend in
global markets. At MCX silver for delivery in July was trading
lower by Rs 22 or 0.05% to Rs 41,497 per kg in a business
turnover of 674 lots. The metal for delivery in far-month
September fell by a similar margin to trade at Rs 42,244 per
kg in 20 lots. In the international market, silver fell 0.34% to
$17.35 an ounce in New York yesterday. Traders attributed
the fall in silver in futures trade to a weak trajectory in
global markets and emergence of profit-booking by specula-
tors at prevailing levels.

India's overall vegetable oil imports declined in May — for
the first time since November 2015 — to 1,024,878 tonnes,
down about 25% on year. On a month-on-month basis, to-
tal vegetable oil imports slipped by over 200,000 tonnes
from 1,248,887 tonnes reported in April 2016, data com-
piled by Solvent Extractors’ Association (SEA) of India
showed. However, overall imports of vegetable oils during
the first seven months of the current oil year, 2015-16
(November to May) stood at 8,593,587 tonnes (7,833,524
tonnes), showing a rise of 10%.
After Vietnam raised concerns over the quality of ground-
nut shipments from India, the plant quarantine department
in Indonesia has restricted its import from India due to dis-
covery of aflatoxins. These are poisonous and cancer-
causing chemical produced by certain moulds which grow in
soil, decaying vegetation, hay and grain. Indonesia has also
sought testing for aflatoxin and pesticide residues in
groundnut consignments from India.
With increasing farmer participation in agri-commodity de-
rivatives on NCDEX, the exchange has introduced compul-
sory sampling and testing for outbound deliveries, starting
with rapeseed and mustard, the exchange announced to-
day. NCDEX has decided compulsory sampling and testing in
respect of all contracts in rapeseed and mustard seed on a
pilot basis, until further orders. If a buyer or taker of deliv-
ery is not satisfied with the quality of the goods delivered
on the exchange's platform, then it is the exchange's re-
sponsibility. Over 8,000 farmers across the country have
hedge their commodity price risk on the exchange platform.
Spread across states of Rajasthan, MP and Bihar, these
farmers are using aggregation of produce to gain bargaining
power and using the futures platform and they participate
through Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs).

CURRENCY MARKET UPDATES:
In line with equity market, the rupee on Wednesday
snapped its losing streak of four straight days against the
dollar and recovered 12 paise to close at 67.15 against the
American currency on hopes of foreign capital inflows. The
rupee opened slightly higher at Rs 67.25 per dollar against
Tuesday's closing level of Rs 67.27 at the interbank foreign
exchange market and hovered in a range of 67.06 and
67.25 before ending at 67.15, showing a gain of 12 paise or
0.18 per cent. The rupee had dropped by 62 paise or 0.93
per cent in the previous four trading days. To end the day,
the rupee closed at 67.15/dollar against previous close of
67.27/dollar, gaining 12 paise.
Meanwhile, the dollar index was down by 0.15 per cent
against the basket of six global currencies in the late trade.
In cross-currency trades, the rupee fell against the pound
sterling to close at 95.31 from 95.22 on Tuesday while it
moved up further against the euro to 75.40 from 75.50.
The domestic currency also recouped against the Japanese
yen to 63.19 per 100 yen from 63.49. Overseas, the US dol-
lar traded mostly higher against its major rivals in early
Asian trade, while the euro nursed losses as the bench-
mark German government bond yield turned negative for
the first time due to worries that Britain might vote next
week to leave the European Union, while investors stayed
cautious ahead of a Federal Reserve's policy decision later
in the global day.
The yen slightly weakened against its rivals during the late
Asian trade as investors await monetary-policy decisions
by the Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan.
Trading range for the spot dollar/rupee pair will be 67 to
67.50/dollar. In the forward market, premium for dollar
inched up further on paying pressure from corporates.

Both had fallen to their lowest levels in nearly four months on Tues- day and are down around 10 percent on the year to date. Mining stocks were among the best performers, with Anglo American and Antofagasta up by more than 6 percent, as metal prices advanced. Asia markets were trading lower on Thursday, with Japa- nese stocks falling behind their peers due to renewed yen strength against the dollar on the back of the Fed's rates call. Australia's benchmark ASX 200 was up 0.77 percent, with most sectors trading up. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 was down 0.80 percent as the yen dropped to 105.61 against the dollar in early morning trade, compared to levels around 106.25 on Wednesday afternoon local time. Gold gained sharply earlier this week. Global geopolitical risks soared over the weekend after an American-born man who'd pledged allegiance to ISIS shot down 50 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando. Eq- uities slipped sharply after this attack as the sentiments were already stressed on delicate global economic picture. Goldman Sachs on Wednesday said it expects the oil price recovery to stall near recent price levels, and crude will need to trade between $45-$50 per barrel for the market to reach a supply deficit in the second half of 2016. The bank said it continues to expect that non-OPECproduction exclud- ing the United States will decline by 4,30,000 barrels per day this year to help put the market into the deficit. The assumption of Fed not hiking the rates in the policy meeting starting Wednesday has underpinned Copper from lethargic levels. Prices of Copper gained 2% and surpassed Rs 310 per kg in a single session. Till yesterday a trading range of Rs 300 and 310 per kg was active in Copper. Prices of Copper tested a high of Rs 311.75 per kg and a low of Rs 305 per kg. The Fed is unlikely to hike interest rates at the end of its two-day policy meeting on Wednesday following a recent batch of weak U.S. data, led by the non-farm payrolls in May which grew the least since September 2010. In sepa- rate news, Work to develop a large underground operation at the Chuquicamata copper mine in northern Chile is on track for production to begin in 2019. Silver prices fell by Rs 22 to Rs 41,497 per kg in futures trade as speculators trimmed their exposure amid a weak trend in global markets. At MCX silver for delivery in July was trading lower by Rs 22 or 0.05% to Rs 41,497 per kg in a business turnover of 674 lots. The metal for delivery in far-month September fell by a similar margin to trade at Rs 42,244 per kg in 20 lots. In the international market, silver fell 0.34% to $17.35 an ounce in New York yesterday. Traders attributed the fall in silver in futures trade to a weak trajectory in global markets and emergence of profit-booking by specula- tors at prevailing levels. On a month-on-month basis, to- tal vegetable oil imports slipped by over 200,000 tonnes from 1,248,887 tonnes reported in April 2016, data com- piled by Solvent Extractors’ Association (SEA) of India showed. However, overall imports of vegetable oils during the first seven months of the current oil year, 2015-16 (November to May) stood at 8,593,587 tonnes (7,833,524 tonnes), showing a rise of 10%. After Vietnam raised concerns over the quality of ground- nut shipments from India, the plant quarantine department in Indonesia has restricted its import from India due to dis- covery of aflatoxins. These are poisonous and cancer- causing chemical produced by certain moulds which grow in soil, decaying vegetation, hay and grain. Indonesia has also sought testing for aflatoxin and pesticide residues in groundnut consignments from India. With increasing farmer participation in agri-commodity de- rivatives on NCDEX, the exchange has introduced compul- sory sampling and testing for outbound deliveries, starting with rapeseed and mustard, the exchange announced to- day. NCDEX has decided compulsory sampling and testing in respect of all contracts in rapeseed and mustard seed on a pilot basis, until further orders. If a buyer or taker of deliv- ery is not satisfied with the quality of the goods delivered on the exchange's platform, then it is the exchange's re- sponsibility. Over 8,000 farmers across the country have hedge their commodity price risk on the exchange platform. Spread across states of Rajasthan, MP and Bihar, these farmers are using aggregation of produce to gain bargaining power and using the futures platform and they participate through Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs).

Trading range for the spot dollar/rupee pair will be 67 to 67.50/dollar. In the forward market, premium for dollar inched up further on paying pressure from corporates.
