Baidu Map, an equivalent of Google Map, has become a very sophisticated tool set that not only allows

5. 2. Public Transport
Users can type in the starting point and destination to show the right route on map. Information of public transport is displayed on the lefthand side such as the distance to be traveled by walk, bus or Metro, bus and Metro number, travel time, even the cost for a taxi ride.

Local View Search is a powerful feature providing searches for a number of facilities including hotels, restaurants, residential blocks, bus
stops, banks, hospitals, supermarkets, ATM, parking spaces, gas stations, KTV, cinemas, gyms and etc. Searches can also be made by
typing keywords in the search box.

This function displays real-time and predictive future traffic condition. Different colors are used to show different conditions: ‘traffic jam’,
‘slow’ and ‘smooth’.

3D Map is a very interesting feature, similar to Google Earth or Apple Map Flyover. Street-level scan and special software are used for
modelling and mapping of the building to create the unique hand-drawing effect, however the isometric view means only one viewing angle is
available. Mouse-over can highlight some of the buildings and view the building’s name. Only the city center of several major cities are

The 3D Map is rendered in very high resolution. This is an enlarged view of Shanghai World Trade Center and Jinmao Building, the two tallest
buildings in the city.

During the Chinese New Year in 2014, Baidu Map provides a real-time tracking of the largest annual migration. ‘The Chinese New Year
Migration Map’ was updated every hour for eight hours a day, showing hundreds of millions of Chinese people making the annual journey for
their hometowns in order to spend the New Year holiday with their families.
