Information and Communications Technology Rationale All schools now expect a fast and reliable connection to the Internet with effective networking and securities enabling easy access to a common software platform and resources from web. The Internet is a driving force for much development and innovation in both developed and developing institution. Most secondary schools are using virtual learning environment and some have integrated curriculum with management information systems. ICTO aims to ensure that all resources have access to the best educational facilities necessary to prepare young people to play full roles in modern society. A vision of how ICTO will impact on education in St. Joseph School – La Salle with respect to Learners, Inclusion, Curriculum, Teachers, Administration and Management, Community Learning, Communications Infrastructure and Quality of Service. Specific Objectives A. Students Services Development St. Joseph school – La Salle aims to put learners at the heart of the learning process and to enrich and extend their development of knowledge, skills and understanding through the effective use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The School will still have the capacity to excite and motivate learners the use of ICT tools and technologies that will give greater independence enabling them to manage and achieved their own learning more effectively. B. Faculty/Staff Services Development Through various initiatives the majority of teachers are now not only confident in their personal use of ICT but are able to make judgements about its appropriateness to any given teaching or learning context. As a result, ICT is routinely used in all subjects and for planning, record keeping and reporting. Rather than being threatened by the technology, teachers feel empowered by it and convinced it can reduce workload. C. Office System Development With networking, internet and software infrastructure in place, St. Jo now see using ICT as an integral part of teaching and learning in all subjects as their greatest priority. Furthermore, ICT and e-learning are increasingly seen not as ends in themselves, but as important enablers of broader strategies for education. D. Community Involvement In the wake of the effective deployment Learning Institution, many schools have become hubs for learning in the community. Moreover the definition of community is a broad one with schools not only providing access to ICT facilities and courses, but
  2. 2. also extending opportunities for curriculum support and continuous professional development for teachers, extend facilities and services available to parents, alumni and other people in the community.
