My group and I thought about
what genre we wanted our
opening sequence to me after
careful consideration and looking
at a couple of different genres
we chose to do an opening
sequence under the genre
drama. Within the drama genre
there are three main sub
genres; Period drama teen
drama and gritty drama our
opening sequence is a teen
drama.
A drama film is
structured to keep
the audiences
attention and to get
them to become
emotionally attached
to the characters.
To do this they
create a climax and
an anti-climax this
keeps the audience
engaged throughout.
As drama films
directors use real
life issues to make
there films more
relatable the target
audience has to be
older enough to
understand the
issues this is why
the target audience
for these films is
commonly young
adults.

When used to define a specific genre or type of film or television programme, drama is usually qualified with
additional terms that specify its particular subgenre, such as "costume drama," "political drama," "courtroom
drama," "domestic drama,“ “Teen drama” or "comedy-drama." These terms tend to indicate a particular setting or
subject-matter, or else they qualify the otherwise serious tone of a drama with elements that encourage a
broader range of moods.
In this broader sense, drama is a mode distinct from novels, short stories, and narrative poetry or songs. In
the modern era before the birth of cinema or television, "drama" came to be used within the theatre as a
generic term to describe a type of play that was neither a comedy nor a tragedy. It is this narrower sense
that the film and television industries, along with film studies, adopted. "Radio drama" has been used in both
senses—originally transmitted in a live performance, it has also been used to describe the more high-brow and
serious end of the dramatic output of radio. Drama film is a genre that relies on the emotional and relational
development of realistic characters. While Drama film relies heavily on this kind of development, dramatic
themes play a large role in the plot as well. Often, these dramatic themes are taken from intense, real life
issues. Whether heroes or heroines are facing a conflict from the outside or a conflict within themselves,
Drama film aims to tell an honest story of human struggles.

realisation or a lesson learnt from the
events within the movie.
o The plot of the movie should be realistic
and they should go through a journey or a
struggle, to in they end ,end up with a
happily ever after.
o The relationship between the main character
should be inevitable between themselves and
the other characters.
o A teen drama film often has a narration
running through it.
o A high amount of emotion running through
the film.
o Dramatic music is often used to express

There are three main types of characters in
drama films; The protagonist, the love interest
and the villain.
The mise-en-scence of a drama film; Dull
lighting this connotes the idea of a gritty and
bleak nature, Close up shots of the individual
characters, Clear shots and angles to show
groups of people all together. Low angle and
high angle shots to portrays weakness and
power when appropriate.
