4. Mass transit system refers to public shared
transportation, such as trains, buses, etc that can
commute a larger number of passengers from
origin to destination on a no-reserved basis and
in lesser time. It can also be termed as Public
Transport.
What is Mass Transit?
5. . There are different usages of transportation, like: within the city,
intercity, intercountry… etc.
. In this presentation we discuss within the city transportation which is
also known as mass transit or public transportation.
. in simple words we can say transportation of people and goods from one
point to another point inside the city.

6. Cities and metropolitan areas are centers of diverse activities, which
require efficient and convenient transportation of people and goods.
. It is often said that transportation is the lifeblood of cities.
. High density of activities makes it possible and necessary that high
capacity modes of public transportation be used because they are more
economical, more energy efficient and require much less space than
private cars.

7. Generally there are 3 types of public transportation systems:
1. Right of way category A.
2. Right of way category B.
3. Right of way category C.
Different types of mass transit.
8. This category has no contact with the other vehicles or road users in
the roadways and has its own exclusive path. Like: Metro
Right of way category A.
Its electric rail vehicles are
operated in trains and provide the
highest performance mode of urban
transportation.
9. It has the most effective transit system between all the types of public
transportation systems with least possible time.
There are some limitations with this category also:
. The number of users should be large.
. The area of the city should be large.
. The implementation costs huge budget.

10. This category is partially separated from other vehicles or road users,
and they become together only in intersections Like: Bus Rapid
Transit(BRT)… etc.
Right of way category B.
These are buses that has specific path
along the road and other road users
couldn’t disturb it.
Only in intersections combines with
other vehicles.
11. This category can carry lesser number of passengers in comparison to
the category A.
But it needs lesser budget to build than category A.

12. This category is mixed with other vehicles or road users in the
roadways. Like: Bus systems
Right of way category C.
There is no need for making
exclusive roadways.
13. It needs least possible budget to launch this system.
But it has limitations like traffic congestion, it will take more time to
travel from one point to another.

14. There are lots of benefits and advantages in public transportation
systems, and we mention many examples; like:
1. Reduction of pollution.
2. Reduction of traffic congestion.
3. Increasing of fuel efficiency.
4. Saving money.
5. Safer trip.
6. Free time up.
Advantages of mass transit.
15. By moving people more
efficiently, public transit
produces significantly less air
pollution per passenger mile
than a standard car carrying
a single driver. Buses emit
20% less carbon monoxide per
passenger mile than an
automobile with a single
occupant.
Reduction of pollution.
16. As we see in the illustration one
bus can work instead of 60
passenger cars.
Now compare it with BRT, and
Metro.
And this theory can minimize
the traffic congestions.
Reduction of traffic congestion.
17. Along with reducing air pollution,
public transportation is also more fuel
efficient per passenger mile, which
contributes to an overall decrease in
the amount of energy necessary for
transportation.
Increasing of fuel efficiency
18. It is more economical to travel in public transportation than individually
in passenger cars.
It is safer to travel in public transportation.
There would be free time to use and learn while traveling with public
transportation.
Encourage more healthier habits.
