2. ABOUT KHO-KHO
This traditional Indian sport is more than a game. It is a
personality development tool for the one who loves to take
up the challenge.
KHO-KHO is an inexpensive but highly enjoyable game.
This game require immense stamina and speed.
Kho-Kho is a great test of the participants` physical fitness,
strength, agility, speed and stamina and dodging ability.
KHO-KHO is a tag game of our country.
Originated in Maharastra, KHO-KHO is one of the oldest
form of outdoor sport.
3. Common terms in KHO-KHO
Pole: A specially made wooden cylindrical construction, erected
firmly at both sides of playfield.
Chaser: The sitting team who tries to catch the opponent team
member who is running.
Runner: The player of opposition who saves himself from being
catch by the chaser.
Central lane: Two parallel lines from one pole to other.
Cross lane: The parallel lines cutting central laneat the middle of
playing area.
Kho: The word Kho is actually a pass given by one chaser to
another.
Early getup: When the sitting chaser gets up before getting a Kho.

Shape of playfield: Rectangular
Size of playfield: 27 m x 16 m
Free zone: 1.50 m
No. of squares in each lane: 8
Distance pole to pole (central lane): 24 m (30 cm wide)
Size of square: 30 cm x 35 cm
Pole Size - Height 1.2 m, Diameter 9-10 cm.
6. Introduction: KHO KHO
The game comprises two teams with 12 players each in
the team while only 9 players actually playing.
The match comprises 4 turns consisting of two defense
and two chase turns.
Every turn is of 9 minutes duration.
Every put- out defender brings one point to the chasing
team.
The high scoring team is declared as the winner.
The game consists of numerous defense as well as chasing
skills.

8. RULES & REGULATIONS
The running or chasing side is decided by the toss.
A team consists of 12 players in which two teams of 9 playing members play
against each other alternately in four turns or quarters of 9 minute each.
‘Chaser’ team takes a sitting position in the cross lanes with opposite back in 8
squares and one player stands near the pole.
Runner team sends players for running. While other runners will wait for their
turn in entry zone area
Chaser team attempts to catch the running players while passing on Kho from
one player to another.
Chaser player can only move in one direction without crossing the central lane
The points are awarded by the legal touch of chaser player to the running
players
An additional inning shall be played in case of equal points where time is
compared to make 1 player out.

11. CHASING SKILLS
Diving:
This is very effective method
of touching the chaser and
catching him. In this process
chaser pounces on active
runner to touch him out.
Pole Diving:
In this kind of diving the
runner make sure he takes
support of wooden pole and
diving to touch the runner.
12. CHASING SKILLS
Taking Direction:
Chaser team player must
keep his foot out of box
with care as his foot will
decide which way he will
run to chase the runner. If
stepped left or tilted the left
shoulder to the left then the
chaser shall have to run on
left direction only.
13. CHASING SKILLS
Fake Kho:
To mislead the runner sometimes
chaser act like giving kho but
continue to run so that if the
runners happen to change the
side misunderstanding the
situation falls prey for the
chasing team.
Sudden Kho:
In sudden kho the chaser gives
immediate kho to team mate by
reaching out his leg and hands
making it hard for runner to
avoid getting caught.
