It’s a shame that referencing is not widespread
amongst primary and secondary schools….

 It’s a shame that referencing is not widespread

secondary schools as well as colleges.
 If it was more popular it would enable young people
and children to be more comfortable and confident

It’s a shame that referencing is not widespread amongst primary and secondary schools…. Learnt at school? Reading comprehension To read about authors from information on book covers, e.g. other books written, whether author is alive or dead Publisher  to become aware of authorship and publication. (DCSF 2008)
  • 3. If it was more popular it would enable young people and children to be more comfortable and confident when approaching their work Young people Access students
  • 4. Keep it simple please  Citing  Plagiarising  Academic integrity  Insightfully analyse  Paraphrase  Contextualise  ‘A source is any resource that you use to collect information for your coursework including text books, encyclopaedias, journals, TV and radio programmes, the internet and other people’ (Ofqual 2009)

  • 9. Referencing should be approached with enthusiasm and focus should be on delivery and gaining the skill
  • 10. How can this be achieved? Further sessions dedicated to referencing? Practical online exercises Software Start earlier
  • 11. And finally  It’s a shame that referencing is not widespread amongst academic institutions such as primary and secondary schools as well as colleges.  If it was more popular it would enable young people and children to be more comfortable and confident when approaching work.  They will be better equipped to handling more challenging work at college and university.  Referencing should be approached with enthusiasm and focus should be on delivery and gaining the skill.
