 To give up : to surrender,renounce ( menyerah,meninggalkan)

 To take pity on : to pity ( kasihan kepada )

 Put one’s foot in it : say or do something that is precisely the wrong thing to 
say or do in a given situation ( turut ambil bagian ) 
* Lylod put his foot in it when he told Ethel she reminded him a lot of Dora. 
The two girls detest each other. 
 Have words with someone : quarrel ( bertengkar dengan ) 
* I just had words with the salesman in the television department. 
He refuse to refund my money for a TV set I bought here last week. 
 On edge : nervous,irritable ( gugup/gelisah ) 
* What’s wrong with Ben?He seems to be on edge about something this 
morning. 
 Come to the point : be direct,giving the essential facts ( menjelaskan pokok 
persoalan ) 
* Proffesor Jone’s stories are interesting but he takes too long to come to 
the point. 
 The last straw : that incident which,after a series of similiar one’s,causes one 
to become angry 
* When I told Sam I needed the money he owed me for six months he said 
he could’nt pay;instead he asked to borrow an additional ten dollars. 
That was the last straw!
 Take a stand on something : declare firmly that one is for or a againts 
something ( mengambil sikap ) 
* Terry is very changeable.One day he says he is in favor of an issue 
and the next day he isn’t so sure.I wish he’d take a stand on 
something just at once.

3. Bellamy is coming to the point this morning.He has to give a speech 
to the Lion’s Club at noon.He doesn’t like to talk in front of a crowd 
of people. 
4. Proffesor Bell is supposed to be discussing Churchill’s role in World 
War II but during the half hour he’s been talking he hasn’t mentioned 
either Churchill or the war.I wish he’d have words with someone. 
5. When,after a day of much activity,the boys told their weary mother 
that they were bored and wanted something to do,that was put his’s 
foot in it .

 Lose one’s heart : jatuh cinta 
i really loses my heart to him. 
 Jump to conclusion : mengambil kesimpulan 
he jumped to conclusion without asking someone else. 
 Be all ears : penasaran apa yang dikatakan 
Tell me what my father said,I’m all ears. 
 Beat around the bush : tidak suka ditanya-tanya 
Quit beating around the bush.If you don’t want to go with me,just tell me.

I had it ten minutes ago b. I wonder what has become of John. I haven’t seen him in weeks  To give up : to surrender,renounce ( menyerah,meninggalkan) a. The enemy gave up without any resistance b. King Edward VIII gave up his throne in order to marry the woman he loved  To take pity on : to pity ( kasihan kepada ) a. Tom’s sister took pity on him and lent him some money b. He refuse to refund my money for a TV set I bought here last week.  On edge : nervous,irritable ( gugup/gelisah ) * What’s wrong with Ben?He seems to be on edge about something this morning.  Come to the point : be direct,giving the essential facts ( menjelaskan pokok persoalan ) * Proffesor Jone’s stories are interesting but he takes too long to come to the point.  The last straw : that incident which,after a series of similiar one’s,causes one to become angry * When I told Sam I needed the money he owed me for six months he said he could’nt pay;instead he asked to borrow an additional ten dollars. That was the last straw!
  • 9.  Take a stand on something : declare firmly that one is for or a againts something ( mengambil sikap ) * Terry is very changeable.One day he says he is in favor of an issue and the next day he isn’t so sure.I wish he’d take a stand on something just at once.
