। (R.R.S. 10/2)
An instrument that eradicates दोषाs (मुष्णाधि दोषान्) of the
drugs when subjected to heat, it is called as “मूषा”.
The crucible here is a strong mud container in which,
metals or minerals can be melted or heated upto a very
high temperature.
। (R.R.S. 10/1-2)
SYNONYMS
Called So since....
The shape resembles the shape of lotus flower (कुमुद) .
The mud used for preparation of मूषा Is taken from the
place called krouñchikā.
The mud used for preparation of मूषा is taken from
place called karahātikā.
वचि चमत्र The मूषा can withstand any degree of temperature
required for pharmaceutical purposes.
The metals and minerals are cooked in it.
CRUCIBLES
• A crucible is a container that can
withstand very high temperature
and it’s used for metal, glass and
pigment production as well as
number of laboratory processes.
मूषा PREPARATION
-BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
The basic requirements to prepare any crucible are
1. The suitable mud
2. The iron powder
Without these two materials, the crucibles cannot be made.
SUITABLE MUD:
The mud that’s
• Granular (सशकय रा)
• Pale coloured (पांडुरा)
• Can withstand any degree of temperature for a longer
duration( वाधि िापसहधिरम्)
। (R.R.S. 10/7)
Equal quantities of
• Charcoal
• Ash of husk
• Jute fibres
• Horseshit
। (R.R.S. 10/25)
• The crucible prepared in the shape of “गोस्िना”
(Cow’s udder shape) is called as ‘गोस्िनी मूषा’.
• Here the lid for this crucible is prepared in inverted
cone shape.
• This crucible is used for सत्व extraction of selected
metals or minerals.
INGREDIENTS
1. Selected mud - 3 parts
2. Jute fibre – 1 part
3. Horseshit – 1 part
4. Ash of husk – 1 part
5. मंडुरा (लोहाधकट्टा) – half part (R.T.३/८-९)
• All these are rigorously pounded together to obtain a
sticky and homogenous Mixture.
• From this mixture, the crucibles of desired size and shape
are prepared, dried and baked in intense heat.
• Later they are used as ‘vajra musha’.
• Since the strength and durability of this crucible is more,
it’s named as ‘वज्र मूषा’.
• Used for सत्वपातन of वज्र (diamond), अभ्रक (mika) and
other such harder metals and minerals.
Crucible having (R.T.
• Narrow and stong base at bottom (to fix firmly
in the ground)
• Wide and spacious body above.
• Has equal length and width.
• Also called as ‘स्थूला मूषा’ .
• Used for application of पुट to the सत्व of लोहा,
Equal quantities of
1. Charcoal Ash
2. Husk Ash
3. Ant hill mud
4. Vida
are rigorously pounded together to obtain a
sticky and homigenous mixture. (R.T.
• From this mixture, the crucible of desired shape
and size are prepared, dried and baked in intense
heat.
• Now the kalka of all the above mentioned drugs is
prepared and applied on all parts of the crucible
and dried.
• This process of कल्का application and drying is
repeated for 3 to 4 times and later the crucible is
used as ‘योग मूषा’।
• A crucible of 12 अंगुला lenght and breadth, resembling the
shape of a bigger sized Brinjol is prepared.
• The lid should resemble the shape of an inverted धत्तुरा पुष्प of
8 अँगुला lenght above.
• This Brinjol shaped crucible is known as vrantāka
• Used for sattvapatana of खपपर and other such drugs.
•Two शराव sealed face to face will
make one मल्ला मुष.
•It is also be known as शराव संपुि
•Used for preparing पपपिी and other रस
preparation. (R.T.
• The crucible resembling the shape of a mud
pot prepared by the Potter thatbis thoroughly
baked is known as पक्वा मुष.
• It is used for swedana of रस द्रव्य tied in pottali.
। (R R S 10/5)
The process of sealing the crucible and it’s lid is called as
Also called as
1 pala
1 pala
7 pala
• All these are taken in specific amount in a िल्व यंत्र and pounded
rigorously along with ataasi िल.
• While continous pounding and trituration, when the mixture attains
sticky paste like consistency, it is used as an adhesive to seal the
crucibles and it’s lid.
• This adhesive mixture is called as मादना मुद्रा. (Ānandakanda)
HATA MUDRA
• Taken in खल्वा युंत्र
• Added same quantity of pig’s fresh blood
• Mixed thoroughly from sunset to sunrise(I.e. 12 h
• When the mixture attains smooth sticky paste consistency
• Used as an adhesive to seal musa and pidhanaka. (Ānandakanda)
IMPORTANCE OF मूषा:
। (RR.S 4/10) .
According to classical texts the money (काधकनी) obtained
from मूषा is much more valuable than a lakh rupees
obtained from bad people.
USES OF मुष
1. Removal of दोष
2. Melting of रस द्रव्य
4. Enhances colour of िािु
5. Enhances quality of पारद
7. Stabilizing of पारद
