2. I. Background
• Cassava area estimate in 2018 was 70,930 ha,
estimate production 2,277,050 ton.
• In 2019, the main province grow cassava are 8
province including Salavan, Champasak, Sayabory,
Borlikhamxay, Sekong, Attapue, Vientiane capital and
Vientiane province
• The main source of planting materials are from
Thailand and Vietnam (2018 and 2019 are not import
form Vietnam)

10. Panama Disease status in Lao PDR

11. 1. Background
• Panama disease caused by
Fusarium oxysporum f. sp.
cubense tropical race 4 (VCG
01213/16) is a serious pest of
banana and can have a high
impact on yield and found in
Borkeo and LaungNamTha
provinces North of Laos in
2016.
• Banana Foc TR4 disease is big
problem for banana farm some
farmers they lose their framers
and some framers change to
new crop (Sugar can, maize,
mango, been etc.) The export
value of bananas is expected to
slide down.
