The document provides details about the design and purpose of a music application called "Tempo." It discusses how the app will allow users to access music features like playlists without needing Wi-Fi or paying a monthly fee. It describes the target audience as secondary school students and explains font and color scheme choices. Key features mentioned include seeing where friends are and what music they're listening to on a map. The document also includes sections on website functionality, a production plan, revenue projections, legal/ethical considerations, terms and conditions, and audience theories relevant to the app.
2. Purpose for “Tempo.”
When designing and creating this application I thought about common problems that me and my friends face
when in lessons and within the school grounds. One of these problems was listening to music with mobile data or
paying a monthly contract. An example of this would be Spotify which provides unlimited use of features while
listening to songs, the only problem is that the user has to pay a monthly contract in order to access these
features at any time. Ultimately, my application allows similar features to by accessed without the requirement of
Wi-Fi or having to pay a monthly contract. With this in mind the user will be able to have unlimited access to
features when listening to music without having to worry about using data or paying money to the company
before hand.
The Font style that I have chosen is “Lemon Milk” and the reason for this is because I believe that it is simple
and best suites the target audience witch is secondary school students.
The scheme that I went with is red and black and this is because I think that it includes a great contrast that
appeals to the target audience the best.
One key and interesting feature is being able to see where friends are in the real world and to be able to contact
them and discover what music they are listening to. This will be be done by the user being able to see a life-like
map of the world and when ever another user (friend) is using the application the user will be able to see where
that user is and what kind music they are listening to.
The website: will help the company by allowing a large amount of consumers to access their favorite music
easily and quickly. The website specifically is beneficial for the company as it allows thousands of consumers to
use it’s content as it can be accessed through any computer at any time.
3. Contents
• The contents of my application will include the
login and the home page that provides easy
access. The homepage has more options for the
users as the login only allows minimal features to
be accessed. All of the features such as the
Radar icon, the Link icon and the search icon will
all be unlocked as soon as the users passes the
login stage. By doing this, it encourages the user
to login and become a member of the application
in order to obtain access to the applications full
capabilities. The applications features such as
the search icon, the friends icon and the list icon
are all unique features that can only be used on
this application. Because of this it guides the
users to always use this application in order to
use these certain features. When creating the
application I kept the target audience in mind in
order to have the best chance of attracting the
right users.

7. Revenue
Price
Website Designer (x3) £30k (10k each)
App Developer (x3) £60k (20k each)
Adobe CC 2017 (x3) £1.3k
Apple iMac (x3) £1k
Price of application: £3.99
Price of website: Free
Average school population: 1.3k
3.99 x 1.3k = £5,187 Revenue for each school depending
on the population.
8. Budget
• The budget of my application is
moderately scaled depending on the
population of each school that uses it.
Because of this it allows the application
to make profit and spend more time
and money of improving the application
for the users. When more content and
features are added to the application
the price of the application will rise as it
will become more favorable by the
target audience. The price of the
application and the money used in the
creation of it is limited in order to give
the users plenty of time to see and use
the application without losing to much
money.
9. Legal and Ethical issues
• Copyright law: has been set up in order to protect creators and their work. Ant content that I not protected by
this copyright can be used by anyone without the authors consent. Content that is copyright protected can
prevent others from using their work without their permission, otherwise the people have to comply with eligible
prosecutions if caught. The 1998 Law have now made that all original
content made by the creator should be protected by copy right if someone was to use it without their
permission. By doing so the users cannot claim the authors work or righteous money.
• The Data Protection act controls how peoples personal information is used by other organizations and these
organization have to keep under strict rules in order to keep the information safe and secure. By doing so the
information can be kept maintained and compromised by others. If the organizations don’t stay to these rules
they can receive costly fines as a penalty.
• Ethical issues: In order for the application and website to be successful in schools I would need to have all the
information and history of the user to be kept safe and secure for the individual. It would be very important to
have the regulations for the user updated with knowledge.
• The General Data Protection Regulation is designed to allow users of the application to easily access better
controls of their personal data. By doing this they have the authority to issue penalties greater than £10 million
if the rules are broken for an individuals account.
• Protection of application: The protection of the application will be used through keeping all the users
information, such as music taste, safe from any other users. Any explicit language used on the applications
messenger will be presented as asterisk’s to ensure that no users feel uncomfortable or scared to use the
application. All users will also be able to block certain users that they don’t want to speak to via messenger. By
doing this the application greatly reduces the chances of social bullying and any un-wanted behavior.
10. Continued
• The W3C Guidelines and accessibility allow easy access for individuals
accounts who are disabled.
• W3C do this through 4 main guiding principles which include:
• Operable
• Perceivable
• Understandable
• Robust
• The Web and Standards Project (WaSP): reduce the cost of development
while increasing the amount of accessibility to any site published on the web.
Allows consistency through web pages to remain accessible and open. If these
technologies were fully supported, designers and developers, would be able to
create functionality on web pages far beyond any other web browsers
capabilities.
11. Terms & conditions
• This terms of use agreement is a legal agreement between the person,
school, local authority or any other education provider named in the
registration.
In order to go about using the application “Tempo” it is important to read and consider, when signing
up/registering, all of the terms and conditioned that apply to the application. These will be provided to
you in English. You agree that any and all use of the application shall constitute your acceptance to
the terms and conditions of this application.
If you do not agree with the terms and conditions then please avoid usage of Tempo.
Data:
• The application and website will be provided with certain data that concerns
students, teachers and parents. The school shall: provide Tempo with the non-
exclusive and non-transferable access to the students, teachers or parents data by
providing the main access through the schools database for the term of this
agreement.
• The school warrants include the permissions necessary for the rights to transfer
Student, teacher or Parent data to Tempo.

12. Audience theories
• Hartley: Fictions of the audience allows a brand or a company to grab a sense of who their
product will be sold to. Because of this it allows the brand and company to have a target audience
that they can aim their product towards to ensure that the product will be effective and efficient.
Regarding this to “Tempo” the target audience would be secondary schools students aged
between 11-18 although the features and easy use can allow 18+ users such as teachers to use
the application. For Pulse, however the target audience is primarily aimed at users aged from 18-
25+ as the design and colour scheme appeals more to the older generation. The soothing colours
of blue and grey help to attract the attention of older users through its strong contrast and
professional features.
Katz: Theory is to focus on the audience instead of
the actual message that is portrayed across. An
example of this would be “what people do on
applications” instead of “what applications do to
people” and by doing so the center of the product
should be to make it relevant to the target audience
as much as possible therefore encouraging them to
buy it instead of buying the next best thing.

effects-on-audiences/
13. Audience theories continued
• Maslow: The Maslow theory indicates that audiences are attracted to media
that satisfy their needs and this can be seen in texts and images over social
media. Maslow’s hierarchy illustrates different circumstances that can occur in
everyone's daily lives while social media provides a distraction that can please
the viewer/reader. Regarding Tempo, the application will most likely be used
the most during schools as the application provides an easy use of features
and doesn't require a computer unless the user wishes to use the website.
Because of this the features will be designed to satisfy the user through
smooth movements and easy access without problems.
• Socio-economic: The socio-economic needs suggest that certain people
have higher paid jobs and because of this it determines what group they are
in. For example, “Upper class” workers who are typically professional lawyers
will roughly be earning £50,000+ while a lower socio-economic group such as
group E are normally students or casual workers who are earning from £5,000
– £7,000. For Tempo the website and application will be aimed at the group E
audience as students and causal workers will be able to access the website
and application with easy access. However due to the website and application
being mainly a music based media product it is possible that it will relate to
almost all the groups.
