The Quickstart Guide teaches you how to set up SMTP accounts in 1and1Mail Multi Account Manager. It is the first step to start your email marketing campaigns.
2. What is a SMTP Account?
In a nutshell, a SMTP account is a basic service provided by most email servers
that allows you to send email messages from almost any email software on
your local PC, such as Outlook, Thunderbird, Foxmail, and 1and1Mail.
It is very important to set up your SMTP accounts correctly in 1and1Mail before
sending any mass mails.
You need the following info before you proceed:
- Email account username and password
- SMTP server address (e.g. mail.yetesoft.com, smtp.gmail.com)
- SMTP port number (e.g. 25, 465 or 587)
- Encryption/Secured connection method (e.g. SSL or TLS)
- Need authentication or not
If you are not sure about these settings, please ask your email service providers
or your IT staff for help.
(If you are using free email accounts, such as Gmail, Outlook/Hotmail/Windows Live Mail,
Yahoo! Mail or AOL Mail, you can refer to here for their latest SMTP settings.)
3. Create a New SMTP Account
1and1Mail will prompt you to create a new SMTP account
when you start the software the first time.
5. Email Account Login Info
- Enter the email account you want to use to send mass emails.
- Enter the name you want to show to your email recipients.
- Click “Next”.
Tips: You can use free
email accounts such as
Gmail, Yahoo! Mail,
Hotmail and AOL Mail,
or your corporate email
accounts.
6. SMTP Server Setting
- Enter your SMTP server address. For example, “smtp.gmail.com”.
(Please consult your email service provider in case you don’t know it.)
- Click “Advanced” and click the “SMTP Server” tab for advanced
configuration of your SMTP server.
8. Gmail Issues – Less secure apps
Gmail imposes high security standards. It may block sign in attempts from some
desktop email clients or mobile apps. To use Gmail in 1and1Mail, please log in
your Gmail via your web browser and go to "Less secure apps" page to turn on
"Access for less secure apps".
9. Gmail Issues – Application Specific Password
If your Gmail account has 2-Step Verification enabled, you have to create an
application-specific password for 1and1Mail. Please visit this webpage for the
instructions. After you generate the app password, go to 1and1Mail and replace
your original Gmail password with the 16-character password.
10. Sending Policy
- Another 2 parameters can be set under “Sending Policy” tab:
1. Sending Delay: the time to pause after sending each email (The longer, the safer).
With random pause between 2 numbers, 1and1Mail is like a real person manually sending
each email, not a robot trying to spam others.
2. Sending Limits: you can further limit how many emails can be sent in 24 hours and
every x hours.
- Make sure you do not exceed the send quota of your email account
11. Manage Multiple Accounts
- If you have multiple email accounts from different service
providers, you can create different groups to manage them.
- Click “Group” -> “Add”
- It is suggested that you put email accounts from the same
email service providers in the same group.
