WHY IS PDHPE SO VITAL IN
OUR SCHOOLS?
IN 3 SMALL STEPS
THE 3 CORE STEPS
1. Personal Development
1. Improving a sense of self, developing not only aspirational goals through knowledge
and awareness, but also spiritual and social abilities for life.
2. Health
1. Development of sound understandings of what makes a healthy life. As well as
healthy choices with a positive attitude and behaviour.
3. Physical Education
1. A drawing in of physical development and health achieved through fun physical
activities, designed to build decision making, problem solving and exercise.
1. PD (PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT)
 How is PD reflected in PDHPE?
Through each and every PDHPE Syllabus outcome
and value:
V1 refers to a sense of their own worth and dignity;
V2 respects the right of others to hold different values and attitudes from their own;
V3 enjoys a sense of belonging;
V4 increasingly accepts responsibility for personal and community health;
V5 willingly participates in regular physical activity; and
V6 commits to realising their full potential.
2. H (HEALTH)
 Why is Health important?
 Self-worth over appearance
 Respect for others differences
 Personal belonging
 Healthy living
 Willingness to participate
 And working towards goals
Values and Outcomes are
integrated at every level, but
what do student really learn?
These are but three areas from
over 40!

3. PE (PHYSICAL EDUCATION)
 Why is PE of educational value?
 Exercise, healthy living, growth and development,
gymnastics, interaction, or any of the dozens of PDHPE
outcomes work best when placed into an environment
where they can be practically taught.
 Many factors come into play when participating in PE
 Relationship building with peers
 Fitness levels
 Improvements in decision making and problem solving
 Greater control and co-ordination of extremes
 And many more factors, including but not limited to:
 Sustaining of an active lifestyle
 Consequences of choices and
 Safety
PDHPE ‘IS’ VITAL
 PDHPE is vital to our school curriculum, not
simply because of the student development
the subject achieves or the health and life
lessons it teaches, or even the strength of
mind and body that is educated. The vitality
of PDHPE comes in its versatility with other
subjects and the ability to integrate teaching
practices to obtain a deeper knowledge and
understanding of all KLAs

Through each and every PDHPE Syllabus outcome and value: V1 refers to a sense of their own worth and dignity; V2 respects the right of others to hold different values and attitudes from their own; V3 enjoys a sense of belonging; V4 increasingly accepts responsibility for personal and community health; V5 willingly participates in regular physical activity; and V6 commits to realising their full potential.

PE (PHYSICAL EDUCATION)  Why is PE of educational value?  Exercise, healthy living, growth and development, gymnastics, interaction, or any of the dozens of PDHPE outcomes work best when placed into an environment where they can be practically taught.  Many factors come into play when participating in PE  Relationship building with peers  Fitness levels  Improvements in decision making and problem solving  Greater control and co-ordination of extremes  And many more factors, including but not limited to:  Sustaining of an active lifestyle  Consequences of choices and  Safety

The vitality of PDHPE comes in its versatility with other subjects and the ability to integrate teaching practices to obtain a deeper knowledge and understanding of all KLAs
