- Emphasises the ‘mill’ of rumors idea where they are always circling
around and always coming up with new rumors.
0 ‘calling all the shots before I shoot them

- They are making up rumors without even knowing the people first,
just based on superficial things they can see.
0 ‘every time I turn my back I wonder’
- Always making up things when people turn their backs
0 ‘say to make me sound like someone different’
- Saying things that are not true, making them seem like they are
someone they are not.
0 ‘It’s not worth it anymore’
- The other singers voice shouts this through as if trying to make the
other one realise that it is not worth it to care what others think
anymore.
4. The Chorus
0 ‘sick of all the pressure
your just wasting time’
- Sick of the pressure to please people, the people making up the rumors
are a waste of their time.
0 ‘I don’t ever want to know what it feels like
to be a shadow of myself’
- not wanting be who they aren’t.
0 ‘What makes you think that
you know what’s better for me’
- Self explanatory; arguing with someone who is trying to control them.
They do not know the real person underneath.
0 ‘I don’t think you want to see what’s underneath’
- Refusing to see someone the way they are
0 ‘Your made up version of me’
- Someone trying to make them into something different, making up their
own version of them.
5. Second verse
0 ‘There you go again believing
that the truth is what you’re reading’
- People always believing what they read or hear about people, believing it to
be the truth.
0 ‘Talk some shit I haven’t heard before’
- Rumours being made up are always the same and are so over said that it
becomes boring and unimaginative.
0 ‘If you’ve got something to say’
‘don’t want to talk about it’
‘if you need someone to blame’
‘don’t want to cy about it’
- The two singers seem to with someone; the male singer (the first and third
line) seems to be angrily singing to the people making the rumours trying to
get them to stop, whereas the girl appears to be pleading with them to stop
spreading rumours.
0 ‘I measure life in minutes but these critics think they’ve got me figured
out’
- He tries to live life in the moment but the ‘critics’ (rumour makers) think
they know him, no matter what he says or does.
6. Before the final chorus (leading
up to the conclusion of the song)
0 ‘Ive lost the strength to keep my
grip on reality’
- Tired of fighting all the rumours that are not true, loosing faith in
reality?
0 ‘Every thought from day to day is
fading from my memory’
- Thoughts going against the rumours are fading.
0 ‘But I’ll never let this grow out of my control’
- Changes mind and decides not to let them get the better of them.
0 ‘watch your steps so you don’t
fall into this whole you’ve dug alone’
- Telling the ‘critics’ to watch themselves because they are digging
themselves deeper in lies that will eventually catch up to them.
7. Summary
0 The song is about people being made rumours about,
the singers telling themselves that they do not want to
fall for the rumours and telling the ‘critics’ that they
do not know them, they only have a made up version
of who they are.
0 They end up nearly giving into the rumours until they
decide to ignore them and not let them bully them
into be someone they aren’t.
