 Developed bio dynamics agriculture in
1924.
 An Austrian philosopher, social
reformer, architect, and esotericist.
WHAT IS
BIODYNAMICS
AGRICULTURE?
 Biodynamics derived from two Greek words, bios-life and
dynamos-energy .Thus it refers to working with the
energies which create and maintain life.
 It is a system of organic agriculture which recognizes the
biological and chemical values of soil and treats farm as
living system to build healthy living soil.
It started in India in early 90s when Peter Proctor was asked
to come to India by Sri T.G.K. Menon in 1993
defining.….
USES 5 SOURCES OF
ENERGY

Cont.…
 It is holistic understanding of agricultural farming
that treats soil fertility, plant growth and livestock
care as ecologically interrelated tasks.
 It emphasizes the use of composts and inputs made
from various herbal, mineral and manural raw
materials excluding the use of artificial chemicals on
soils and plants.
SALIENT FEATURES
 Emphasizes on integrating farm animals, the
use of astronomical sowing and planting
calendar*.
 It is one of the first sustainable Agricultural
movement ; produces a living soil and healthy
plants as a result of coordinated work of
earthly and cosmic energies.
Cont.…
Biodynamics relies on the following three
concepts:
1. Two field sprays -- These are called BD 500
which is made from horn manure and BD 501
made from horn silica
2. Five compost preparations -- These
preparations are a mix of herbs that are added
to compost
Concept of biodynamic
3. A moon planting calendar -- This calendar is one
you've probably never seen before. It's a
correlation between different parts of the plant,
the cycles of the moon, and an astrological chart.*
The first spray mentioned in the list above – BD 500 -
- works in the roots of plants and the second spray,
BD 501, works its magic by influencing light and
growth of plants when sprayed onto leaves.

OF
1.PLANT DIVERSITY
Plant diversity plays an
important role on a
biodynamic farm by
providing natural habitat
that incorporates into the
farm ecosystem. we utilize
plant diversity to help
nature and decrease pest
problems.
Raising an assortment of
animals encourages
healthy soils, reduces
fewer parasites , pest and
weeds and the manure is
used in the compost.
2.ANIMAL DIVERSITY
 Homeopathic solutions
are extracted from
animal manure, plants
and minerals.
 These extracts are
sprayed to treat soil
3.HOMEOPATHIC SOLUTIONS
The dynamic part of the
biodynamic agriculture
method draws attention
towards the fact that
various forces beyond the
earth have an effect on
plant growth.*
4.LIFE FORCES
* NEW MOON AND FULL MOON INFLUENCES :-
In the 48 hrs leading up to the full moon there
appears a distinct increase in the moisture content
of the earth. The growth forces of the plants seems
to be enhanced.
During full moon period there is quick seed
germination , fast plant growth , and a rapid
regrowth of any cut or pruned vegetation.
 There appears a quicker
cell division and a
tendency of elongation of
growth.
 The full moon influences
allow good absorption of
liquid manures.
Cont..
 In ascending period, size of moon increases and earth
breathes out. This period is meant for growth activities of
above ground parts. During this the SAP FLOW in plants is
more which strengthens the plant parts.
 In descending period, size of moon decreases and earth
breathes in. During this, underground parts are activated
more.
Ascending and descending period of moon
Cont.…
 Effect of planets: The influence of these forces on a
particular part is more at a particular time or period.
 MOON, MERCURY & VENUS-influence growth of plants.
 MARS ,JUPITER & SATURN-influence the yield &quality.
 Effect of constellations: constellations are related to four
basic elements i.e. EARTH, FIRE, WATER and AIR. These
elements can be correlated with the four plant part i.e.
ROOT, LEAF, FLOWER and FRUIT.
Planetary influences
BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE
 Composting creates
healthy soil, humus ,
Nitrogen to support
healthy crops.
 consists of different herbs,
vegetative matter, sheep
manure , straw, cow
manure etc.
1.COMPOSTING
• Compost improves the structure of the soil. This
allows more air into the soil, improves drainage
and reduces erosion.
• Compost improves soil fertility by adding
nutrients and by making it easier for plants to take
up the nutrients already in the soil. This produces
better yields.
• Compost improves the soil’s ability to hold water. This
stops the soil from drying out in times of drought.
• Compost can reduce pests and diseases in the soil and
on the crop.
Therefore,
Cont.…
 Biodynamic farmers make use of
cover crops for dynamic
accumulation of soil nutrients,
nematode control, soil loosening,
and soil building
 Used in the areas which are prone
to soil erosion.
 E.g. Green gram, Cowpea ,
Sesamum, Chili, Leafy vegetable.
BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE
BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE
 Crop Rotation provides soil
enrichment , natural habitat,
encourages beneficial insects
while reducing soil compaction
and recycling plant nutrients into
our soils.
 They also stabilize soil during
heavy rains and hold moisture
during drought periods.
 planned association of two or
more plant species in close
proximity so that some cultural
benefit (pest control, higher
yield) is derived.
 increases biodiversity on the
farm which leads to a more
stable agro ecosystem.
BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE
 Crops grown for the purpose of restoring or
increasing the organic matter content in the soil
are called green manure crops.
 Their use in cropping system is called ‘Green
Manuring’, where the crop is grown in situ or
brought from outside and incorporated
 E.g.. Dhaincha, Sun hemp, Green gram, Black
gram, Cowpea etc.
6.GREEN MANURING

PREPARATIONS
 Preparation 500 is made by filling a
cow’s horn with cow dung.
 It is buried in the soil during the cooler
months(Nov-Feb) and cow should be
fed with good quality fodder two days
before filling the horns.
 The horns should be buried in a pit
about 16-18 inches.
 The preparation after four months have
turned into dark humus
 It is sprayed up to four times a year.
BD 500- COW HORN
MANURE
 BD 502 is prepared by using
Yarrow Plant Flowers (Achillea
millifolium) .
 The Yarrow Flowers are cut from
the plants in summer or autumn.
 In spring season, the Yarrow
flowers are dried and place into a
stags bladder. Hang the bladder
in a tree facing the sun.
 The bladder is taken down and
buried in the soil within an
earthen container.

CONCLUSION
 Biodynamic farmers don’t
consider their crops as items of
consumption, but rather as
agriculture grown by stimulating
their spirits which are bonded to
the environment.
“Biodynamics is a scientifically
sound approach to sustainable
management of plant systems”

  • 3.  Developed bio dynamics agriculture in 1924.  An Austrian philosopher, social reformer, architect, and esotericist.
  • 5.  Biodynamics derived from two Greek words, bios-life and dynamos-energy .Thus it refers to working with the energies which create and maintain life.  It is a system of organic agriculture which recognizes the biological and chemical values of soil and treats farm as living system to build healthy living soil. It started in India in early 90s when Peter Proctor was asked to come to India by Sri T.G.K. Menon in 1993 defining.….

  • 7.  It is holistic understanding of agricultural farming that treats soil fertility, plant growth and livestock care as ecologically interrelated tasks.  It emphasizes the use of composts and inputs made from various herbal, mineral and manural raw materials excluding the use of artificial chemicals on soils and plants. SALIENT FEATURES
  • 8.  Emphasizes on integrating farm animals, the use of astronomical sowing and planting calendar*.  It is one of the first sustainable Agricultural movement ; produces a living soil and healthy plants as a result of coordinated work of earthly and cosmic energies. Cont.…
  • 9. Biodynamics relies on the following three concepts: 1. Two field sprays -- These are called BD 500 which is made from horn manure and BD 501 made from horn silica 2. Five compost preparations -- These preparations are a mix of herbs that are added to compost Concept of biodynamic
  • 10. 3. A moon planting calendar -- This calendar is one you've probably never seen before. It's a correlation between different parts of the plant, the cycles of the moon, and an astrological chart.* The first spray mentioned in the list above – BD 500 - - works in the roots of plants and the second spray, BD 501, works its magic by influencing light and growth of plants when sprayed onto leaves. • 12. 1.PLANT DIVERSITY Plant diversity plays an important role on a biodynamic farm by providing natural habitat that incorporates into the farm ecosystem. we utilize plant diversity to help nature and decrease pest problems.
  • 13. Raising an assortment of animals encourages healthy soils, reduces fewer parasites , pest and weeds and the manure is used in the compost. 2.ANIMAL DIVERSITY
  • 14.  Homeopathic solutions are extracted from animal manure, plants and minerals.  These extracts are sprayed to treat soil 3.HOMEOPATHIC SOLUTIONS
  • 15. The dynamic part of the biodynamic agriculture method draws attention towards the fact that various forces beyond the earth have an effect on plant growth.* 4.LIFE FORCES
  • 16. * NEW MOON AND FULL MOON INFLUENCES :- In the 48 hrs leading up to the full moon there appears a distinct increase in the moisture content of the earth. The growth forces of the plants seems to be enhanced. During full moon period there is quick seed germination , fast plant growth , and a rapid regrowth of any cut or pruned vegetation.
  • 17.  There appears a quicker cell division and a tendency of elongation of growth.  The full moon influences allow good absorption of liquid manures. Cont..
  • 18.  In ascending period, size of moon increases and earth breathes out. This period is meant for growth activities of above ground parts. During this the SAP FLOW in plants is more which strengthens the plant parts.  In descending period, size of moon decreases and earth breathes in. During this, underground parts are activated more. Ascending and descending period of moon
  • 20.  Effect of planets: The influence of these forces on a particular part is more at a particular time or period.  MOON, MERCURY & VENUS-influence growth of plants.  MARS ,JUPITER & SATURN-influence the yield &quality.  Effect of constellations: constellations are related to four basic elements i.e. EARTH, FIRE, WATER and AIR. These elements can be correlated with the four plant part i.e. ROOT, LEAF, FLOWER and FRUIT. Planetary influences
  • 22.  Composting creates healthy soil, humus , Nitrogen to support healthy crops.  consists of different herbs, vegetative matter, sheep manure , straw, cow manure etc. 1.COMPOSTING
  • 23. • Compost improves the structure of the soil. This allows more air into the soil, improves drainage and reduces erosion. • Compost improves soil fertility by adding nutrients and by making it easier for plants to take up the nutrients already in the soil. This produces better yields.
  • 24. • Compost improves the soil’s ability to hold water. This stops the soil from drying out in times of drought. • Compost can reduce pests and diseases in the soil and on the crop. Therefore, Cont.…
  • 25.  Biodynamic farmers make use of cover crops for dynamic accumulation of soil nutrients, nematode control, soil loosening, and soil building  Used in the areas which are prone to soil erosion.  E.g. Green gram, Cowpea , Sesamum, Chili, Leafy vegetable.
  • 28.  Crop Rotation provides soil enrichment , natural habitat, encourages beneficial insects while reducing soil compaction and recycling plant nutrients into our soils.  They also stabilize soil during heavy rains and hold moisture during drought periods.
  • 29.  planned association of two or more plant species in close proximity so that some cultural benefit (pest control, higher yield) is derived.  increases biodiversity on the farm which leads to a more stable agro ecosystem.
  • 31.  Crops grown for the purpose of restoring or increasing the organic matter content in the soil are called green manure crops.  Their use in cropping system is called ‘Green Manuring’, where the crop is grown in situ or brought from outside and incorporated  E.g.. Dhaincha, Sun hemp, Green gram, Black gram, Cowpea etc. 6.GREEN MANURING
  • 35.  Preparation 500 is made by filling a cow’s horn with cow dung.  It is buried in the soil during the cooler months(Nov-Feb) and cow should be fed with good quality fodder two days before filling the horns.  The horns should be buried in a pit about 16-18 inches.  The preparation after four months have turned into dark humus  It is sprayed up to four times a year. BD 500- COW HORN MANURE
  • 36.  BD 502 is prepared by using Yarrow Plant Flowers (Achillea millifolium) .  The Yarrow Flowers are cut from the plants in summer or autumn.  In spring season, the Yarrow flowers are dried and place into a stags bladder. Hang the bladder in a tree facing the sun.  The bladder is taken down and buried in the soil within an earthen container. BD 502-YARROW FLOWERS
  • 39. CONCLUSION  Biodynamic farmers don’t consider their crops as items of consumption, but rather as agriculture grown by stimulating their spirits which are bonded to the environment. “Biodynamics is a scientifically sound approach to sustainable management of plant systems”

  1. What is Peppering? Peppering is one method that Biodynamic farmers and gardeners use to make a specific area feel the wrong vibration/anti fertility for certain weed, animal or insect. It does not kill them; they just will not go there. In the case of seeds, future seeds are infertile. The method entails taking the seed part of the plant or the whole animal, skin, feathers or insect and putting it through fire (opposite of fertility) at the time of highest fertility in the Moons’ cycle. Then spread the ashes or potentised ashes in or around a boundary of the area where the weed, animal or insect is a problem You will need to have access to the Biodynamic Antipodean Astro Calendar (available through the Biodynamic Association) to get the right times and for more detailed instructions. Some practitioners sell readymade Potentised Peppers.
