This was our first piece of audience feedback
feedback from our Media class regarding our
pitch for our music video. This is a valuable
piece of feedback as it was at the beginning of
our project and our class belongs in our
audiences age group of 16-25 years old.
My Pitch Feedback
‘Maybe start to think how you will
blend the genres’
‘Woods are pretty unconventional’
These are two examples of feedback that
made me start to consider how I would
accurately portray my alternative hip-hop
genre. The feedback helped me realise how
combining genre conventions from each genre
of music evident in the one track could be one
way of creating a relevant and effective image.
We later then decided to make sure we used
the woodland location in combination with
more conventional locations such as a street
and garage to almost merge the genre’s into
one alternative product.
‘Could be a challenge to make a
pure performance vid interesting’
This was a concern raised multiple times during
this stage of audience feedback. It made us
realise that we needed to keep the audience
engaged throughout the music video
performance. We then brainstormed multiple
things that could aid this, for example varied shot
sizes and types, illustrative imagery of the lyrics
and energetic and immersive performance.
Rough Edit Feedback
‘conventional hand-held footage
works well’ ‘Frequent changes in
location make it engaging’
This positive audience feedback from our Media class has proven some
our approaches to previous concerns successful. For example the
camera work and Mise-en-Scene choices have kept the audience
engaged and interested. They also enjoyed the energetic freely moving
handheld camera shots.
‘Apply filters to lighten
bits up’
‘Lip-synching needs
tightening up’
Here are a couple examples of suggestions for improvement. From this I
learnt that the lip-synching being very accurate is massively significant
with making the video look convincing and therefore enjoyable by not
having to question the performance. Because of this we spent extra time
dedicated to making the lip-synching and accurate as we could,
especially within the faster cuts. Regarding the comment about applying
filters we got the impression our audience might prefer the darker shots
to not be so dark and more visible. We also learned that our audience
enjoy coloured filters over some clips to help them look more styled and
visually interesting. Because of this we made sure to begin using the
colour corrector tool in Premier Pro to add this.
Rough Digipak and
Advert Feedback
At this stage of receiving some audience feedback I had
just started composing some of my Digipak panels and
constructing my magazine advert. Click Play on the video/
image to view the feedback via a Padlet.
‘Strange border of the image compared to the
scratch card, coloured background. doesn't
link together’
Feedback was positive regarding composition, colours and
fonts however they thought the bottom left panel’s imagery
didn’t work together effectively. From this I have learnt that
my audience enjoy a more consistent and less contrasting
theme/ image across my Digipak. Because of this I used a
different photograph of the scratch cards and used it on its
own panel edited with the same level of contrast and
saturation as my other panels.
‘I really like the front
and back panels, the
left panel should be
changed a little bit to
make it match the other
panels more’
‘Works really well with the gene, really good
font choices and composition’
Regarding my magazine advert at this point, I
received great feedback on my choice of font and
compositional layout. This gave me confidence in
the simplistic style/ brand image I began to
construct through this. I therefore carried on
working in this style and kept these colours/ fonts
in the final product.
Final Feedback
Digipak and Magazine Advert feedback
‘All of the photographs look consistently
styled’ ‘Genre is fairly accurately represented’
My previous feedback and adjustments have helped my
product become more successful. Regarding one of my
rough Digipak panels that I changed because it didn’t fit in
with the colours and style of the other imagery. I am also
happy that my genre is even hinted at through my
magazine advert, this was because the genre is difficult to
define itself, it being a mix of genre’s I've tried to create a
rounded but stylized image to summarise this.
Music Video Feedback
‘I like the entertaining performance and
editing to the music’
‘I love the use of colour but more non-
performance visuals could make it more
interesting’
These two specific examples of audience feedback firstly
portrays how important an energetic and convincing
performance is. Editing the music in combination with this
has proven to provide an entertaining reflection of the
music also. The less positive comment outlines how our
application of colour has given benefitted our music video
visually however other imagery might have made it even
better. Although we did include sometimes fairly random
but engaging close ups of objects inside the garage (see
bird example above) I agree the performance could do
with being broken down more so.
The Significance of Audience Feedback
Why Is Meeting Your Target Audience’s
Needs Important?
If you refuse to consider your target audience’s
desires and needs then they won’t chose to
engage with your product. Because of this I have
had to consider our target audience at every
stage of production of all 3 of my final products.
This is so that slightly adjustments and details
within the media products can be tailored to what
they enjoy.
Why Gather Audience Feedback?
Throughout the production of each product I
have gathered audience feedback to learn
what my audience enjoyed and what they
didn't enjoy so much about them at different
stages. This let me grow to have a better
understanding of my audience but it also
specifically informed me with ways to improve
my products. These improvements therefore
made my products more engaging and
effective and overall successful. Without
collecting this feedback it’s clear to see some
of the successful features outlines in my final
feedback wouldn’t have been considered. For
example my clear and consistent brand image
and colour filters.
