2. The music video, I have chosen to use as an example of what
Andrew Goodwin’s theory states is… The wanted – ‘Glad you
came’.
I have decided to use this example because it clearly shows the
relationship between the lyrics and visuals and other points that
Goodwin says in his theory.
3. “The sun goes down” “I’m glad you came”
“And I decided you look well on
me”
“Now I’ll take you by the hand”
4. Within the video there is a clear link shared between lyrics
and visuals which relate back to Goodwin’s theory.
Examples of this include the band members interacting
with various people in the video in certain ways that are
mentioned in the lyrics. An example of this is when the
lyrics say ‘Now I’ll take her by the hand’, the video then
shows one of the band members holding a woman’s hand.
The lyrics are clearly depicting what the band members
are like. How they like to be surrounded by many
attractive women, partying, being on holiday by the sun
etc.
Relationship between lyrics and visuals
5. The visuals relate to the music as it changed as the music
does. After the short vocal and piano intro the music fades
out and the main beat kicks in. When this happens the
visuals fade out, in time with the music and a montage of
various shots are cut as the beat kicks in and each shot
matches the changing beat.
In many of the shots throughout the music video there is
dancing, the dancing is also in time with the music .
Relationship between music and visuals
6. The demands of the record label will include the need for
lots of close ups of the artist, may develop motifs which
recur across their work.
Throughout the music video, there are many close ups of each
of the band members. In the music video, they have some
shots of the band on holiday, wearing very little clothing, this
is for the target audience of women. By putting these shots in,
it is some eye candy for the women to have to look at, as the
members are all ‘fit’ and in good shape.
Close ups
7. The video is shot in different locations, on a holiday in
Ibiza. They are doing many fun things such as going to
beaches, going on speed boats and on big rocks by the sea
and also a lot of partying. This all suggests they are having
a lot of fun and have a lot of money and enjoying their
summer how they want too (partying, with lots of girls).
