1. Question 6
What have you learnt about
technologies from the
process of constructing this
productBy Abbey Waitt
2. During my production of my music magazine, I used a range of
technologies to reach my final product. I have learnt and improved my
magazine by using these technologies. During the process I referred to
my blog regularly and make posts including the uses of technologies.
3. To get the final production I used the list of technology
below, including the obvious being a computer, which
allowed me to actually construct the whole production:
• Digital Nikon D3200 camera
• Iphone 5
• Adobe photoshop cs3
• Internet explorer (blogger, slideshare, youtube e.t.c)
• Microsoft PowerPoint
• Lighting
• Projector
4. Digital SLR Nikon camera
I used this camera to take my images that’s featured in my magazine.
Being digital meant that I could access the photos instantly. This was
good because I could see straight away if the image was good or if I
needed to adapt something e.g. the lighting. Also the large memory on
the camera meant that I could take more than one image and then I
could compare the images taken then and there on the camera itself. I
feel I’ve learnt a lot by using the camera, for example how to change
the IOS and how to adjust the lighting. Using the internet also helped
me a lot in learning how to use the camera and how to get the best
result. This merging of technologies enhanced the outcome and
knowledge of using the camera.

6. Mobile phone
Mobile phone ( Iphone5 )was really useful to use, because when taking
my contents page images I took my phone with me to a live gig of the
band and good some good quality images. Although its small and
lightweight it has very good mega pixels. I then furthered on my phone
to send the images I took to my email address so I could access my
images via the computer. I also used my phone to contact my focus
groups and also to meet up to take image for my production, also
planning the locations via maps on my phone. The use of convergence
in this piece of technology meant I could merge the convenience of
emailing, taking photos, and planning. It made my whole production a
lot easier.
7. Adobe Photoshop
Using this programme allowed me to manipulate my images, text and
create my whole production. I didn’t know how to use this programme
before the media course so I researched a lot of bloggers and YouTube
videos and the help of an expert helped me to create my production to
the best which I could. I did a lot of things on Photoshop and here is a
few examples of what I have learnt:
• Edit images (turning my main image into black and white)
• Setting up column to the right measurements
• Positioning of the images and the text
8. Internet explorer
This was used during my research to learn about the common
conventions of the music magazine industry. I also used google a lot
when on the internet explorer and I used these two internet mediums
to keep constant updates on blogger and in the music industry.
YouTube was accessed via the internet explorer. Blogger I have learnt a
lot on. This has come in very handy as I can now set my blog layout to
convince my audience and so that they can access my production at
any time.
9. Microsoft PowerPoint
I used this during my research to co-ordinate my common conventions
of other magazines. I chose PowerPoint because its easy, I knew how
to use it and its well laid out. I also used PowerPoint because it means
that others can relate to my PowerPoints which I publish and exciting
use of colours/ images/ slides means that others will be engaged.
10. Lighting
This was basic and easy to use, it just required trial and error. There
was a lot of experimentation when it came to my double page spread,
as I wanted the lighting to be very visible. So there was a lot of images
which were no good but in the end I found the perfect lighting which
really complimented the image and the idea behind the image to what
my audience will want.
11. To conclude
The use of technology has really helped me to create my final
production consisting of; front page, double page spread and contents
page. Without the use of technology stated, my final production could
have never reached the professionalism and quality which it has
reached. Not only has it help make the production look nice but it has
helped me organise my work and make it presentable to people across
the world. These technologies weren’t anything that I was familiar with
so over this process I have achieved and learnt a lot, and now they
could be used without hesitation.
