  4. 4. *Before we introduce our project, we would like to add a few heartfelt words for the people who will be a part of this project in numerous ways, people who gave unending support to us. *Words fall short in expressing our gratitude towards the Head of the Department Dr. JAMEEL and faculty members of ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING especially Mr. ZEESHAN HABIB cooperation will be needed as the project proceeds to success. *In the end, our special thanks and gratitude towards our parents who have extended their guidance and support whenever we needed and have made us what we are today. We hope with their showers of blessings we would easily be able to complete the project. 4
  5. 5. SIR NAVEED KHATTAK WHO PROVIDE US PLATE FORM TO EXPRESS OUR PROJECT AND HE MAKE US ABLE TO GET EXPERIENCE FOR OUR FINAL YEAR PROJECT PRESENTATION. 5
  6. 6.  Objective.  Introduction.  Energy crisis in Pakistan.  Basic principle.  Why rack and pinion.  Rack and Pinion Design.  Type of alternator Used.  What we achieved.  Future Scope. 6
  7. 7.  THE OBJECTIVE OF OUR PROJECT IS TO PRODUCE ELECTRICITY BY VERY LOW PRICE.  IN OUR COUNTRY THERE IS TOO MUCH SHORT FALL OF ELECTRICITY AND WE TRY TO OVER COME THIS PROBLEM BY NON CONVENTIONAL SOURCE OF ELECTRICITY. 6/11/2012 7
  8. 8.  Is anyone happy with current situation of electricity in Pakistan?  So, this is our small step to try to improve this situation by our project.  First of all what does electricity mean to us?  Electricity- secondary source of energy i.e. converted from other sources. We need it for every small thing, still notice it’s importance only during load shedding. 8
  9. 9.  Pakistan is facing serious energy crisis at this time .Pakistan as third world developing country is lot affected by this energy crisis in the world .The major issue is electric crisis which is known as load shedding Pakistan’s small manufacturing markets are lot affected by the rise of energy prices. 6/11/2012 9

  12. 12.  Simple energy conversion from Mechanical to Electrical.  To generate electricity using the vehicle weight (potential energy) as input  Possible using 3 different mechanisms: I. Crank-shaft mechanism II. Roller mechanism III. Rack- Pinion mechanism 6/11/2012 12
  13. 13.  Crank-shafts are required to be mounted on bearings which creates balancing problem leading to mechanical vibrations which in turn damage the bearings.  Secondly as bearings are of sliding type, any occurrence of variable load( which is bit obvious in case of vehicles!!) leads to balancing problem. 6/11/2012 13
  14. 14.  Roller mechanism has some different disadvantages.  Maintenance will be very difficult  Might cause collision. 6/11/2012 14
  15. 15. Identify a Need Conceptual Design Preliminary Design Final Design Manufacture Sales & Delivery 6/11/2012 15
  16. 16.  Rack-Pinion assembly gives good mounting convenience  Maximum gear losses– 3 to 5%  Efficiency– 95% 6/11/2012 16
  17. 17.  A rack and pinion gears system is composed of two gears. The normal round gear is the pinion gear and the straight or flat gear is the rack.  The rack has teeth cut into it and they mesh with the teeth of the pinion gear. 6/11/2012 17
  18. 18. 6/11/2012 18
  19. 19.  The rack and pinion is used to convert between rotary and linear motion. Rack and pinion can convert from rotary to linear of from linear to rotary.  The diameter of the gear determines the speed that the rack moves as the pinion turns.  Rack and pinions are commonly used in the steering system of cars to convert the rotary motion of the steering wheel to the side to side motion in the wheels 6/11/2012 19
  20. 20.  Pitch circle radius of pinion=r=100mm=0.1m  Torque(input)=(5000)*(0.1)=500N.m  Power input(mechanical)=(5000)*(0.15)=750watts  As standard the module is taken as 5mm  m=D/T  m=dia of pitch circle of pinion/No.of teeths of pinion  m=5mm 6/11/2012 20
  21. 21.  Although we got less electrical output, we have successfully explained our idea of generating electricity from speed breaker. 6/11/2012 21
  22. 22.  Such speed breakers can be designed for heavy vehicles, thus increasing input torque and ultimately output of generator.  More suitable and compact mechanisms to enhance efficiency 6/11/2012 22
  23. 23. 6/11/2012 23
  24. 24.  In this world where there is shortage of electrical power supply, this project will be helpful to solve some of the problems. This project has some advantages which are  1. The project is economical and easy to install.  2. This project is non polluting.  3. Maintenance cost is low.  4. Installation cost is low.  5. Will solve some of the electricity problems of the world.  6. The electricity produced by this system can be used to drive an electric motor, or for any other purpose.  7. This project can be implemented on road and can be used to lighten the street lamps 6/11/2012 24
  25. 25.  We have to check mechanism from time to time .  .It can get rusted in rainy season.  .It will not work with light weight vehicle 6/11/2012 25
  26. 26.  Energy is an important input to sustain industrial growth and standard of living of a country and can be directly related to energy consumption. The conventional sources energy like coal, oil, uranium etc are depleting very fast and by the turn of the century man will have to depend upon non conventional sources of energy for power generation.  The various types of non-conventional sources of energy are solar energy, wind energy, 6/11/2012 26
  27. 27. BYTHIS METHOD WE CAN REDUCE THE SHORTFALL OF ELECTRICITY FROM 6000MW TO NEGLIGIBLE. 6/11/2012 27
