                      1. Add units of length, involving conversion of units in;
                              a. Millimeter
                              b. Meter and millimeter
                              c. Centimeter and millimeter

Activities          : Demonstrate additions of length in vertical form and convert the

                      answers using concepts of fractions and decimals.

                       centimeters are there in 1 meter?

                       Teacher: Now, you know that 1
                       meter is equal to 100 cm. Alright, I

                                       Add 60 cm and 45 cm. The total
                                       is 10 m 105 cm.
                                       105 cm = 100 cm + 5 cm


                                       Write 5 cm, regroup 100 cm to 1
                                       m.
                                       Add 1 m + 10 m. The total is 11
                                       m.
                                       The answer is 11 m 5 cm.

                        11 m 5 cm = 11 m + 5 cm
                                   = 11 m + 0.05 m
                                   = 11.05 m
Step 3   Work It Out!   Teacher asks pupils to take 2 paper
                        strips with different colour and measure
                        separately on their desk.
                        Teacher: Please take this paper strips.
                        Each of you must have two paper strips
                        with different measurements.


                        Teacher asks pupils to measure the first
                        paper strip then, the second paper strip.
                        Teacher: Take out your ruler and
                        measure the first paper strip followed by
                        the second paper strip.


                        Teacher asks the pupils again to write
                        the measurements on the paper strips.
                        Teacher:    You     must     write    the
                        measurement that you get on the paper
                        strips.

Teacher asks pupils to take 2 paper strips with different colour and measure separately on their desk. Teacher: Please take this paper strips. Each of you must have two paper strips with different measurements. Teacher asks pupils to measure the first paper strip then, the second paper strip. Teacher: Take out your ruler and measure the first paper strip followed by the second paper strip. Teacher asks the pupils again to write the measurements on the paper strips. Teacher: You must write the measurement that you get on the paper strips.

Teacher: I want you to convert this length from cm to meters using division.
